I am very pleased to have assisted the #HIMMS24Europe summit this week where I've had the opportunity to look at Innovation in #HealthCare in a #patientcentric approach, particularly for the European region. Amongst all the insights I take with me, one of the most relevant is the use of technology with a particular focus on data to improve #patienoutcomes, optimize #carepathways and reduce health care system burden. It is quite a game changer when we start looking at the big picture and focus on the true impact we can make in peoples lives and not just technology and solutions. These are certainly challenging times in the world of healthcare, with constraints such as the aging population, lack of resources and staff shortages, but the next year's will also be exciting and pivotal. Bringing opportunities for evolution and innovation with data and technology as sounding pillars....excited and looking forward for what lies ahead. #himss24 #himss24europe #healthcare #patientcentric #pathwayoptimization #patientoutcomes

New thinking on how to improve the use of NHS data in research: good plans to a) bring together the health data assets in one secure organisation to make it simpler for legitimate researchers to work on national-scale data and b) move away from the crazy situation of government funding lots of small health data access organisations , and GPs controlling small patches of NHS patient data. And an honest acceptance that the UK has been leading but is being caught up on health data access and science. On the less good side - soundbites on a huge £ value of the data, which could give the impression that this can be achieved without years of hard work linking and improving the data and developing a data platform and services that deliver. Definitely worth a read and I hope that these ideas can be developed and implemented by the incoming government. (declaration - I contributed to this) Tony Blair Institute for Global Change #datasaveslives #nhs #innovation
The UK’s health-data assets have immense potential to unlock new diagnostics and treatments, deliver better and more personalised care, prevent disease and ultimately help people live longer, healthier lives. Yet the complex and fragmented nature of the current health-data landscape, and concerns around privacy and public trust, have made for slow progress. To overcome this the government must be bold and imaginative, placing technology at the centre of innovation. At the Abu Dhabi Global Healthcare Week conference last week, Sir Patrick Vallance talked about need for governments to embrace AI to help build more resilient and sustainable health systems. Learn more about how governments can harness the transformative power of technology to revolutionise health in our latest policy paper (with a foreword from Sir Patrick Vallance), “A New National Purpose: Harnessing Data for Health”: https://bit.ly/4bJk6Hg #technology #innovation #NHS #healthcare #ADGHW #FutureofBritain

The Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC) has played a pivotal role in steering innovation towards more meaningful and impactful outcomes. From its initial involvement in the implementation of Meaningful Use and the HITECH Act, the ONC has been at the forefront of integrating technology into #healthcare to enhance patient care and provider capabilities. As we've moved through the era of the 21st Century Cures Act, the ONC's mission has expanded beyond just electronic #health records and interoperability. Today, it is a beacon of #innovation, incubating ideas at the confluence of technology, policy, and people. This holistic approach is critical in addressing the nuanced challenges of healthcare, ensuring that technological advancements are groundbreaking but also equitable and accessible. The ONC's journey underscores a fundamental truth: #HealthCareInnovation is as much about improving outcomes as it is about fostering an environment where technology serves humanity, not the other way around. By bridging the gap between policy frameworks and technological advancement, the ONC ensures that the health ecosystem evolves in a manner that benefits everyone, regardless of their socioeconomic status or geographical location. As we look to the future, the ONC's role in nurturing ideas that enhance the intersection of technology, policy, and people will undoubtedly be crucial in realizing our collective vision for a healthier world for all.
