In case you are wondering: What is 'primary prevention' of violence against women? If you are not sure of the answer, here's some examples (google them). Primary prevention is the work of increasing all women's choice and control over their lives and their bodies, via communities, organisations, and big complex structural change. It is a good time to add more strategies - let's absolutely take-on the commercial and industry contributors to VAW - but abandoning these primary prevention strategies now would be a quick ticket to failure. Respectful relationships Education - every child, every school in Victoria. Working for Women - the national gender equality strategy. Our Equal State - the state gender equality strategy. Pretty much everything done by Djirra, Victoria's only organisation dedicated to Aboriginal women Wiyi Yani U Thangani - a national change agenda for First Nations gender justice Respect@Work and the Our Watch Institute - so that workplaces are safe, inclusive and respectful of women. It's Time We Talked - for parents and families to tackle the effects of pornography. Together for Equality and Respect - and so many other women's health-led partnerships that bring communities together allover Victoria. And so, so much more... Primary prevention is the long game and it's working to change lives. The more strategies, the more dollars to eliminate violence against women, the better.

I can’t help feeling most of these initiatives are mostly led by, and target, women? Given men are (mostly) the problem when it comes to intimate partner violence and murder, isn’t it time we scaled up work targeting men, to change the attitudes of men in families, communities, and workplaces in relation to intimate relationships with women?

We can react, respond and police our way out of this crisis alone. Prevention is crucial and as you said the long game
