Today, we remember the tragic events of December 6, 1989, when 14 women lost their lives in an act of gender-based violence at École Polytechnique in Montreal. These young women, full of promise and potential, were targeted simply because they were women pursuing careers in engineering—a devastating reminder of the dangers of sexism and hatred. This day is not only a time for reflection but also a call to action. Gender-based violence remains a pervasive issue in our society. Whether it’s through advocacy, education, or supporting those affected, we all have a role to play in building a safer, more equitable world. Let’s honor the memory of these 14 women by continuing the fight for gender equality, challenging systemic discrimination, and standing up against violence in all its forms. We cannot change the past, but we can work toward a future where tragedies like this no longer happen. #ÉcolePolytechnique #RememberDecember6 #GenderEquality #EndViolence #NeverForget

💸Violence against women Is expensive; lets save some cash!!!!💸 Gender-based violence (GBV) doesn’t just shatter lives—it also imposes a staggering economic cost on society. According to a 2021 study by the European Institute for Gender Equality (EIGE), GBV against women costs the EU €290 billion annually, making up 80% of total GBV costs in the region. 🔎 Breakdown of Costs: Criminal Justice System: €20.4 billion/year, or 67% of direct costs. Health & Social Services: Account for 26% of direct costs. Unaccounted Costs: Cyber-violence (€49–89 billion). 💔 The True Ripple Effect: While numbers reveal part of the story, the emotional and societal impact of GBV is immeasurable. It reinforces harmful hierarchies, perpetuates inequality, and slows progress for everyone—not just women. Let’s act to end this global epidemic—because the cost of inaction is far greater. #NoExcuse #16days #EndGBV #GenderEquality #EconomicJustice #SocialImpact

Day 14 of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence ❣️📍🖐🏾 At Wedu, we believe in a world where every woman has the power to lead and shape the future. Yet, gender-based violence (GBV) remains one of the most pressing barriers, robbing countless women of their fundamental rights, well-being, and opportunities to thrive as leaders. In South and Southeast Asia alone, over 1 billion women face restrictions that prevent them from fully realizing their leadership potential. GBV not only harms individuals—it silences voices, limits decision-making power, and stifles contributions at every level, from families to communities and society at large. We cannot achieve true gender equality while GBV persists. This fight demands unity, action, and a commitment to creating a world where women lead without fear, without barriers, and without limitations. Let’s stand together to #EndGBV and build a future where every woman can live, lead, and thrive. #OrangeTheWorld #EndViolenceAgainstWomen #StopGenderViolence #ActNowToEndGBV #16DaysOfActivism

Today marks 35 years since the tragic mass shooting in Quebec, a heartbreaking event that claimed innocent lives and left a lasting impact on families and communities. As we remember the victims, especially the women who were targeted, we are reminded of the systemic issues that contribute to gender-based violence. This anniversary calls us to reflect not only on the tragedy itself but also on the ongoing fight for gender equality, women’s rights, and the dismantling of toxic masculinity. The events of that day underscore the need for continued efforts to create spaces where women are safe, valued, and heard—both in society and in the workplace. As we honor the memory of those lost, let us renew our commitment to building a future where violence against women is no longer tolerated and where all individuals are treated with respect and dignity. #NeverForget #GenderEquality #WomenInLeadership #EndGenderBasedViolence #strongertogether #mominsecurity #securityprofessional #webelonghere

In case you are wondering: What is 'primary prevention' of violence against women? If you are not sure of the answer, here's some examples (google them). Primary prevention is the work of increasing all women's choice and control over their lives and their bodies, via communities, organisations, and big complex structural change. It is a good time to add more strategies - let's absolutely take-on the commercial and industry contributors to VAW - but abandoning these primary prevention strategies now would be a quick ticket to failure. Respectful relationships Education - every child, every school in Victoria. Working for Women - the national gender equality strategy. Our Equal State - the state gender equality strategy. Pretty much everything done by Djirra, Victoria's only organisation dedicated to Aboriginal women Wiyi Yani U Thangani - a national change agenda for First Nations gender justice Respect@Work and the Our Watch Institute - so that workplaces are safe, inclusive and respectful of women. It's Time We Talked - for parents and families to tackle the effects of pornography. Together for Equality and Respect - and so many other women's health-led partnerships that bring communities together allover Victoria. And so, so much more... Primary prevention is the long game and it's working to change lives. The more strategies, the more dollars to eliminate violence against women, the better.

16 Days of Activism Day 12 Empowering Women as a tool to end GBV Empowering women is a powerful tool to end gender-based violence (GBV). By promoting education, economic independence, and leadership opportunities for women, societies can challenge the norms that perpetuate inequality and violence. Empowered women are better equipped to advocate for their rights, access justice, and influence policy changes that protect against GBV. Additionally, fostering gender equality creates a cultural shift where respect and dignity become the standard, breaking cycles of abuse and paving the way for safer communities. #16DaysOfActivism #OrangeTheWorld #GBV
