California's ambitious plan to achieve 25 GW of offshore wind by 2045 has been finalized. The California Energy Commission’s strategy includes streamlined permitting processes, port infrastructure development, and strategies to mitigate ecological impacts. By 2030, the state aims for 2 GW to 5 GW of floating offshore wind, a technology necessary due to the deep waters off the West Coast. The plan also addresses workforce development through academic pathways and apprenticeship programs, highlighting the critical need for port sites to manufacture and assemble the massive wind turbines. By 2045, California envisions a significant buildout of port infrastructure to support this renewable energy push, potentially utilizing 16 large and 10 small port sites. Have Your Say: Offshore Renewable Energy (SC-DMAP) For the South East The Department of Environment Climate & Communications has identified four maritime areas—A, B, C, and D—for development within the next decade. Area A, located approximately 12.4 km from the Copper Coast in County Waterford, is targeted for development by 2030. This area if successfully auctioned and developed, could host approx. 60 no. 15 MW wind turbines, contributing 900 MW towards the total capacity. Come along on 30 MAY IONAD POBAIL NA RINNE, AN RINN DROP IN EVENT from 6pm – 7.30pm to find out more. The draft South Coast Designated Maritime Area Plan for Offshore Renewable Energy (SC-DMAP) is the first sub-national, forward maritime spatial plan for offshore renewable energy proposed by the State. It will provide for the sustainable development of offshore wind through consideration of environmental protection and existing marine users and activities. For the executive Summary compiled by the D&WW Chamber on the draft plan see https://buff.ly/3x4AHX3 Have your say on Ireland’s opportunity for offshore wind The draft SC-DMAP and its associated environmental assessments - Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) Environmental Report and Natura Impact Statement (NIS) - are available for public consultation from until 14 June 2024. During this time you are invited to make submissions which will inform possible revisions to the draft SC-DMAP. Written submissions should be sent by email to southcoastdmap@decc.gov.ie or by post to: International and Offshore Energy Division, South Coast DMAP Submission, Department of the Environment, Climate and Communications, 29-31 Adelaide Road, Dublin 2, D02 X285. For Full details https://buff.ly/3wXPlPV The closing date for submissions is 5.00pm on 14 June 2024. Have your say on Ireland’s first draft spatial plan for offshore wind energy. The Italian Ministry for Environment and Energy Security has approved the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) of the 250 MW 7SeasMed floating offshore wind project. This is the first EIA approval for a floating offshore wind project, said Copenhagen Offshore Partners, the lead developer for the wind farm. 7SeasMed is a 250 MW floating offshore wind project that will be located approximately 35 kilometres off the coast of Marsala, Sicily. Approval of the EIA paves the way for the construction and operation of the offshore wind farm, said the developer. According to COP, the project also positions Sicily as an important hub for renewable energy generation in Italy and bolsters the country's commitment to carbon neutrality. The 7SeasMed is part of a larger 3 GW offshore wind portfolio in Italy owned by the GreenIT, a joint venture between Plenitude (Eni) and CDP Equity, and Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) partnership, and of which COP serves as a lead development partner. The wind farm is expected to provide clean and affordable energy to more than 70,000 homes in Sicily or around five per cent of Sicily's total electricity consumption. In addition to 7SeasMed, the partnership is developing the Ichnusa (504 MW, Sardinia), Tyrrhenian (500 MW, Latium), Nurax (500 MW Sardinia), and Poseidon (1,000 MW, Sardinia) projects. So far, Italy has one operational offshore wind farm, the Beleolico project off Taranto, in the Mediterranean Sea, which was commissioned in April 2022. #renewableenergy #offshorewind #engineering #italy #energy #floatingwind #carbon60 #wind

The US Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) has issued a Notice of Intent (NOI) to prepare an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIS) for the Construction and Operations Plan (COP) for Vineyard Northeast's proposed offshore wind project, located offshore Nantucket, Massachusetts. The publication of the NOI in the Federal Register opened a 45-day public comment period for the Vineyard Northeast EIS ending on 9 May. BOEM proactively extended its standard 30-day comment period to 45 days to account for the Atlantic Shores North NOI 45-day public comment period announced earlier this month. During the public comment period, BOEM will hold two virtual and two in-person public meetings. The COP was submitted by Vineyard Northeast, LLC. Vineyard Offshore, the project team behind the first commercial-scale offshore wind project in the USA, is currently developing lease area OCS-A 0522, dubbed Vineyard Northeast. The approximately 132,370-acre lease area, located 29 miles from Nantucket and approximately 39 miles offshore Martha's Vineyard, is owned by an affiliate of Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners, who took full ownership of the area in 2022 from Avangrid Renewables, a subsidiary of Spain's Iberdrola. BOEM estimates the proposed offshore wind project would generate up to 2,600 MW of electricity enough to power more than 900,000 homes with clean renewable energy. Vineyard Northeast's proposal includes the installation of up to 160 wind turbines, up to three electrical service platforms (ESPs), and one booster station in an adjacent lease area. It also contains two offshore export cable corridors, one to Connecticut and one to Massachusetts, as well as associated onshore transmission systems. #renewableenergy #wind #carbon60 #engineering #america #energy #offshorewind #usa
