Today's major programs are more ambitious than ever before, with clients more focused on achieving strategic, environmental, commercial, and social outcomes. However, it’s essential to rethink commercial models to turn these ambitions into reality. This recent article highlights the importance of aligning commercial and delivery models to enable the full potential of major programs’ intentions and ambitions. A notable example comes from California High Speed Rail, which, having taken the lessons from delivering its Design and Build civil packages, is procuring some of its Rail Systems packages (signalling, train control and traction power) as Progressive Design Build contracts. HS2 (High Speed Two) Ltd has named the teams that will deliver the high-speed rail project’s state-of-the-art track, signalling, communications, and other systems. The ‘rail systems’ contracts will be signed after the statutory 10-day standstill period. Network Rail gears up for £142M programme of festive engineering work Network Rail will be conducting a £142M worth of #engineering works over this #festive period - we give an overview below. Though the vast majority of the #railnetwork will be open as usual, the #train infrastructure body is warning some routes will be affected by this work. As part of this work, #NetworkRail will be undertaking around 400 projects over Christmas and New Year amounting to the replacement of 45 sets of points, four bridges being rebuilt, the installation of 40km of new signalling cables, the renewal of 17 level crossings and the testing and switching-on of seven new signalling systems.
