Pollinator Partnership’s Project Wingspan is actively recruiting volunteers in parts of Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, and Ohio! Project Wingspan is a multi-year landscape-scale project that enhances habitat that supports imperiled pollinator population including monarch butterflies and rusty-patched bumblebees among other wildlife. This program is made possible by a network of volunteers who receive training in plant identification and seed collection protocols. With the help of Pollinator Partnership staff and other Project Wingspan partners, these volunteers collect native wildflower seeds to be used at selected project sites to enhance native pollinator habitat. We are not just surrounded by trees, they’re the lifeline of our societies. It’s why it’s so tragic when cases such as this one in Saint Paul occur: a nonprofit’s attempt to improve the neighborhood was subjected to heinous vandalism. Each tree planted gives to a future generation. It filters the air, holds in rainwater, cools our streets, and houses wildlife. But it’s more than a form of vandalism when these trees are felled – it’s an opportunity lost to invest in a world that works for all. We see every day how a healthy urban forest reshapes societies and communities. But tree protection and value starts with knowledge. Let’s all just step back and acknowledge how precious trees are to our lives and why we need to help them. 💡 Spotlight on Partnership for Species: Lowland nyala Conservation Status: Least Concern 💚 Handsome introverts with a great beard, what's not to love about the male lowland nyalas? Males are usually solitary, while the herds (2-10 individuals) are usually made of females and their offspring, including adult female offspring. While their population is stable, they are at risk of population decline due to illegal poaching and habitat loss. Nature recovery gets a major boost in the West Midlands 🌼 The Purple Horizons Nature Recovery Project has received a significant boost in funding that will go towards supporting several projects across the region.
