🌍💧 Protecting Boreholes for Sustainable Water Access 💧🌍 In Uganda, boreholes are lifelines for entire communities, providing access to clean, safe drinking water. But did you know these vital resources can be vulnerable to contamination and wear without proper protection? By reinforcing boreholes with cement aprons, we prevent runoff from contaminating the water supply, reduce soil erosion, and extend the life of the borehole. It’s a simple yet powerful step toward ensuring that the 200 community members in Butabaala Village served by this well have reliable water access for years to come. #CleanWaterForAll #Water #Sanitation #PublicHealth #SustainableDevelopment #Uganda

Any idea on which African country has the best water quality system? 1. Rwanda: - Rwanda increased from 70% in 2000 to 86% in 2017, demonstrating the country's commitment to providing safe #drinkingwater to its population (World Bank, 2021). 2. Mauritius: - The country has achieved near-universal access to clean drinking water, with over 99% of the #population having #access to improved #watersources (WHO/UNICEF, 2019). 3. South Africa: - While significant #progress has been made in improving #waterquality and accessibility, disparities persist between urban and rural areas (Stats SA, 2020). While progress has been achieved, ongoing efforts are needed to ensure #universal access to #safe drinking water for all populations across the #continent. #WASH #watermanagement #waterquality #waterqualitymonitoring #waterforall #safedrinkingwater #cleanwaterforall #cleanwatermatters #drinkingwater

Balancing Water and roads network or infrastructure at the same time has always disadvantaged the Kenyan Water Sector. The Water Sector Workers Association of Kenya, WASWAK has established that most County Water Acts under devolution are only on paper. How you can use the county Water Act to manage contractors who are the proxy of County government leadership may only be practical under the President Trump regime. Devolution of Water services is both good and bad, especially bad...and against Water reforms 2002 that clearly separated water from Politicians in Kenya...If the stakeholders will not convene urgently and review the laws, policies and guidelines, then #NRW management in Kenya will be realized in 2060.... WASWAK is demanding for transparency and accountability that shall reduce wastage and increase access to clean, safe, affordable and reliable Water and Sanitation for all#SDG6

The Struggle for Safe and Available Water in Somali Region of Ethiopia. 😂 😂 The Somali regional state of Ethiopia faces a significant challenge in securing enough clean drinking water for its population particularly in the rural communities of hard-to reach areas. Here below are the major issues affecting both the #availability and #quality of water in the Somali region of Ethiopia: 1. #availability : ▫ Climate: The Somali region is arid and semi-arid, with scarce and unpredictable rainfall, People rely heavily on seasonal sources that dry up quickly, Droughts are frequent and worsen water scarcity. ▫ Infrastructure Deficits: Piped water systems only reach a fraction of the population, particularly in the rural communities of hard-to-reach areas. similarly, in urban areas, the existing infrastructure may not be able to keep up with population growth and not fulfilling the daily water demand. ▫ Limited Groundwater Reliance: Most water comes from drilled boreholes due to affordability. However, over-extraction may be exceeding recharge rates, raising concerns about sustainability. 2.#quality : ▫ Fluoride: Groundwater naturally contains high levels of fluoride, exceeding WHO guidelines specifically Degahbour, Korehay and Shabelle zones and This caused dental and skeletal problems in the communities of this locations. ▫ Pollution: Seasonal flooding of shabale and ganale rivers and overuse of water sources was lead to contamination by bacteria and other pollutants. ▫ Limited Water Quality Monitoring: Insufficient monitoring of water quality, especially in rural communities in hard -to-reach areas, means potential contamination may go undetected. #PossibleSolutions: ▫ Improved Water Management: Sustainable water use practices, rainwater harvesting, and exploring alternative sources like desalination can alleviate pressure on existing resources. ▫ Infrastructure Investment: Expanding water supply systems and improving distribution networks, particularly in rural communities of hard-to-reach areas, are crucial for wider access. ▫ Water Quality Monitoring: Regular testing of water sources will help identify and address contamination issues. Addressing these challenges requires a multi-pronged approach involving federal & regional government water bureaus, NGOs, and UN agencies. By working together, they can strive towards a future where everyone in the Somali regional state has access to safe and reliable drinking water. #The major Issues to #quality and #Availability drinkable water; in the case of Somali regional state of Ethiopia.! 😂 😂
