Specialist funds that bring sector expertise is a growing trend and the value-add in the healthcare sector is proving to be sought after by LPs and founders. HealthTech, BioTech and MedTech are complex areas filled with necessary regulation barriers and commercialisation nuances that require scientific knowledge, strong relationships within the industry, and a strategic business mind. We joined a table of experts in #mathematics, #computerscience, and #medicine with experience investing in tech to discuss the intersection of #computation, #ai and #biology. Led by the founding team at Dimension Cap - (Adam Goulburn, Nan Li, and Zavain Dar) and co-hosted with Ahmed Husain of Neuberger Berman, it was an enlightening breakfast with a vantage point from the USA, UK, and EMEA. THENA Capital's key take aways from this discussion: 📈The UK is the global leader in available healthcare data which is necessary for ai’s ability to transform healthcare. 🧬The UK’s access to strong tech talent positions the 🇬🇧 as a critical player to bring innovations to scale and super relevant for the future of healthcare! 𝐈𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐬𝐢𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐞 ... 🔍In the medical profession and health research sector, we are often "looking for patients", for access to treatment options or participation in clinical research. 👀But they are not always easy to find. Especially not when looking for people living with a rare disease. ⁉More and more now, we are hearing "𝘞𝘦 𝘤𝘢𝘯 𝘧𝘪𝘯𝘥 𝘱𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘴 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 𝘈𝘐." And we can ... But this is something that is easier said than done! ⛔We know that people with rare diseases often remain undiagnosed. That means you cannot simply find them by simply searching on "medical codes": because they are undiagnosed, or misdiagnosed, the search would not find the patients that need to be found. 💡However, there are more sophisticated machine learning approaches that can overcome this challenge. ⬆If you want to find out how this works, contact me at Volv Global SA or visit me here in our offices at the Biopôle Lausanne. #inTrigue #driveforchange #aiinhealthcare #aiinnovations picture credit: unknown artist

It’s clear that AI is a revolutionary force of change for virtually every sector – and #lifesciences is no exception. From its rapid convergence with biological sciences to enable and accelerate drug discovery to its integration into smart medical devices and application to digital healthcare solutions, AI is opening vast new opportunities to bring novel health innovations to the world. But what’s not so clear are the vast implications it brings to our life sciences commercialization process. Thank you to hosts TIAP - Toronto Innovation Acceleration Partners, OBIO and Mintz for hosting this morning's discussion with esteemed panelists. cc Life Sciences Ontario https://lu.ma/7586n8ut

I want to extend a special thanks to Deniz Razon and the The Boston Club for orchestrating this discussion on Generative and Predictive AI in Clinical Development. We had an invigorating discussion on the potential of this new technology to disrupt the way we deliver clinical trials. Topics discussed included how this technology can be used as a co-pilot in managing the end-to-end process from drafting study protocols, trial design, patient identification, site selection, innovative data management, risk analysis, smart risk based monitoring, document generation, RWE generation, drug supply etc. The discussion also highlighted some of the risks associated with using the technology such as hallucinations associated with LLMs, bias generation, do we need to rethink the placebo effect, cyber-security issues, fraud, etc. A special thanks to all the attendees including Lisa Prior, Sarah Fay, Pam Randhawa, Kathy Johnson, Anna Xia, Molly Doyle, Melahat Samali, Barbara Buell, Jane Boymel, Brenda Haynes, MD Ameeta Soni, Anita Varma, Kate Worthington, PhD MBA Maria Lalioti Bridget Stewart Janet McCormick, CFA Pamela Stephenson Charlene Banard Sandra Stratford MD MSc Regina Au Linnette Zhou Dr. Candice M. 📲 Over the past 5 years, we have backed many incredible healthtech startups who have built technology that is changing the future of healthcare 🤖 💸 Our portfolios have raised millions in funding, published +400 scientific publications and served millions of patients across the world. If you’ve tried to write a scientific paper or raise a £200K angel round or a $10M series A, you’ll know how hard this is. Our portfolios are: 1) Building regulated AI solutions in healthcare where, until recently, there were none. 2) Building in tech bio, the new frontier at the intersection of biology and tech. 3) Fearlessly building in tough digital health segments such as teenage health. "We have always believed that technology is needed to take healthcare into its next era. I have seen this first hand in the NHS. In 2006 I was a newly qualified doctor, I carried large physical, hard-copy x-rays for every patient being seen on the orthopaedics trauma round. In 2017 when I was a consultant radiologist, every scan from x-ray to MRI was viewed online. That’s just in 11 years. Today, our AI companies create algorithms to diagnose fractures on x-rays in A&E and read bone age x-rays. Imagine where will be in another 11 years? Healthcare is a complex, regulated landscape and it can be difficult for startups to flourish here. However, with perseverance & grit, our founders have partnered with the NHS, European and US health systems to deliver clinically validated, UKCA, CEA & FDA approved, patient-centred solutions to millions of patients across the world. I am so proud of the work that they all do. Here’s to the next 5 years." - Dr Fiona Pathiraja, founder of Crista Galli Ventures. #Healthtech #Deeptech #TechBio #DigitalHealth #FemaleInvestor

The rise of Digital Twins in healthcare: A Mapping of the research landscape This paper by jeena joseph and team in Cureus Journal of Medical Science presents a detailed review of the current research landscape into digital twins for healthcare. Through bibliometric analysis, the authors obtained 1,663 publications from 2012 to 2024, basically sourced from the Scopus database, establishing a portion of the trends, productive authors, influential sources, and collaboration networks in this fast-evolving field. Descriptively, their results indicate that although research into this area started way back, the bulk of research began to be realized from 2018 onwards, with appreciable contributions coming in from interdisciplinary fields of artificial intelligence, machine learning, and data analytics. Digital twin technology is undoubtedly a considerable promise for chronic disease management, predictive analytics, drug discovery, and surgical planning. here is the link: https://lnkd.in/eucatdBx The bubbles in the figure below represent the frequency of each term within the specified time frame. The size of each bubble is proportional to the term's frequency. Digital Twin Consortium #healthtech #digitaltwins #digitalhealth
