Indian railways - is it making enough money? Let's embark on a fascinating journey that began in the 18th century when the British introduced rail transport to India. Fast forward to today, Indian Railways stands tall as the fourth largest rail network globally, right after the giants – the USA, China, and Russia. Quite a victory, isn’t it? 🌍🏅 In the financial year 2023, Indian Railways achieved a remarkable milestone, clocking in revenues of ₹2.4 lakh crores! The backbone of this success? Freight transportation, which significantly outpaces passenger ticket sales in revenue generation. 📈💼 And let’s not forget the game-changer: the Vande Bharat Express 🚄, India’s first semi-high-speed train, which has truly revolutionized rail travel in the country. 🔹 Have you had the chance to experience the Vande Bharat train yet? 🔹 What are your thoughts on the future of Indian Railways? A Reflection on India’s Evolving Railways: The Path Ahead After 1.5 years away from India, I’ve noticed some remarkable changes—particularly in the railways. I recently had the opportunity to travel on the Vande Bharat Express, and I must say, the services are exceptional, and the speed is a significant improvement over traditional trains. It’s a symbol of how India is progressing toward better infrastructure and advanced transportation systems. But this brings up an important question: How do we sustain this momentum and ensure continuous improvement? Innovation is crucial, but so is long-term maintenance. Can we maintain this level of service while pushing for even more advanced trains or transportation modes? Another concern is security. We’ve seen a rise in incidents where people deliberately attempt to harm the railways, which not only threatens public safety but also endangers progress. For India to move forward, securing these assets and fostering innovation are essential. The Vande Bharat shows what’s possible, but to fully realize our potential, we must combine technological advancements, consistent maintenance, and strong security measures. The future of transportation in India looks promising—but it will require effort and vigilance to sustain the progress we've made. #Transportation #Infrastructure #VandeBharat #India #Innovation #Railways #FutureOfTransport

💪 …Talk about mission impossible. ➡️ Your assignment: Electrify India’s fleet of public buses, which transport 128 million people a day. ➡️ The economics are harrowing. An e-bus costs about 15 million Indian rupees ($177,000), 2.5 times the price of a diesel model. India’s riders tend to be poor. In Delhi, they pay a maximum of 25 rupees, or 30¢, for a ride. Women pay nothing. ➡️ The prospect made Mahua Acharya’s stomach ache. It seemed to require the resources of a multinational corporation. But Acharya ran Convergence Energy Services Ltd., or CESL, a small government-owned company committed to replacing fossil fuels. “I wanted access to scale,” she says. “It was really bugging me.” ➡️ In 2021, Acharya found a way to achieve that heft. She banded together five major cities for two giant acquisitions of buses. CESL called it the Grand Challenge, an act of financial alchemy that would ultimately put 12,000 on the road for little upfront cost. ➡️ Instead of buying buses, New Delhi, Kolkata and the other cities would bid out to private companies the opportunity to run the entire bus service over 12 years….
