RVL's Jackie Welburn and Kevin R. have successfully completed their Aviation Action Run the Runways challenge during the month of May. The challenge involved running the length of 31 runways, one for each day of the month, and between them they covered over 160 miles. Jackie said ‘I really enjoyed the challenge and getting outside daily for exercise. Over half of my runs were buggy adventure runs which benefited both me and my son greatly.’ Kevin added that ‘the challenge was great for my mental health and I improved my weekly parkrun time!’ Run the Runways raises money for Aviation Action, who are developing an app to provide mental health wellbeing and support to people in the aviation industry. Have you heard about Aviation Action Run the Runways? 🏃🏼🏃🏻♀️🛫 It’s Aviation Actions annual fundraising event where every penny raised goes towards supporting the Mental Health and Wellbeing of those in aviation through a variety of initiatives. These include the new aviation action app, mental health first aid training, suicide awareness webinars, walk and talk events in Snowdonia plus other exciting projects that we have for 2024 such as having 5 dedicated charity peer to peer supporters selected from within aviation to support aviation. These things come at a cost, both a financial cost but also a human cost as the team strive to do everything we can to make aviation a happier, safer community. Ironically Run the Runways isn’t so much about running… or runways! You can run, jog, walk the dog, you can be on a beach, a country path or a treadmill. The important thing is being on a journey throughout May where you come out the other side physically and mentally stronger than when you started. And you’re not alone, there will be hundreds of like minded people taking part all across Europe sharing their own stories and achievements. So do something good for mental health awareness week and help support this fantastic event by signing up to Run the Runways. You can do so by following the link or scanning the QR code 👇🏻 #charity #fundraising #mentalhealth #mentalhealthawareness #mentalhealthmatters #aviation #support #rtr24 #runtherunways

Creating a consistent daily routine can greatly benefit both you and your loved one. Routines provide structure, reduce anxiety, and make it easier to manage time. 🌟 Although it can be hard to do initially, start by setting regular times for meals, activities, and rest. This predictability can help your loved one feel more secure and can ease your workload by providing a clear plan for the day. Don’t forget to include some time for yourself, even if it’s just a short break. Establishing a routine that works for both of you can make daily life smoother and less stressful. 👏 As always, we welcome your feedback with tips that we can share with other family carers under the title ‘Word of mouth – ideas and tips from other family carers’ . #Serve #SupportIndependence #HomeCareServices #Wellbeing #Charity

Do you crave the highs of work, and dread the lows? I often think working for a charity is like riding a rollercoaster for the first time. You know it's going to be thrilling, and scary, and you're not sure what the twists, curves and falls will really be like until you're on it. And by then it'll be too late to get off. The thing is those highs, the thrills can be what sustain us through the falls. But what about when the thrill isn't big enough anymore? What then? Where does that leave you? #thirdsector #ukcharity #seniorleaders #resilience #stress #selfcompassion #mentalhealthforleaders #selfcare #burnoutrecovery #burnoutprevention

When I first left the army, I always said if my next job was cleaning toilets, I would do it with pride and make a damn good job of it. In a world where we are taught to be kind and have empathy and compassion for others, so much so that it is so easily forgotten to apply that same code to yourself. You can not pour from an empty cup, so do not leave yourself behind, go out there and be who you want to be, and don't let societal norms dictate to you who to be. Some are born into greatness and don't get to appreciate the grind to get there when you have gone through hell to see true greatness within yourself, despite all your darkness. We all have something special inside of us. We are all the purpose of life. Be good to yourself, and be good to others. But you and you alone should be your own priority, and that is what we should be teaching our children, I guarantee you that when you believe in yourself, you will see your purpose. Even if that is cleaning toilets, make a damn good job of it and take pride in what you do. Have a great day, everyone, and happy birthday to me 😁🫶 #mentalhealthawareness #mentalresilience #mindset #resilience #kindness #SelfLove #SelfWorth #Dadpool #deadpool #Bath #Ducks #LostLovedOnes #Grief #GriefJourney #MoreThanWeSuffer #TraumaRecovery #YouMatter #Fundraising #RaisingAwareness #Charity #Hiking #Accountability #Walking4Hope #ResilienceThroughNature #PreventativeMeasures #foxhole #whosinyourfoxhole

Meet Will Jeffery, Head of Engineering and Asset Management at the Port of Southampton, and a dedicated ABP colleague who has made charity work a core part of his life for over 20 years. From marathons to cycle rides, Will has taken on annual challenges to raise awareness and funds for meaningful causes. This year's highlight? A 100km cycle ride around the Isle of Wight in support of #ANDYSMANCLUB#ANDYSMANCLUB, a charity breaking the stigma around men's mental health. For Will, this event was deeply personal. Diagnosed three years ago with dystonia – a neurological condition that affects mobility – he faced the challenge head-on with the help of colleague Andrew Hallam MEng (Hons) CEng MICE. Andrew suggested tackling the ride together on a tandem bike, allowing Will to focus on pedaling while Andrew steered. Their tandem, affectionately named 'Until the Cowes Come Home,' became a symbol of teamwork and determination as they completed the challenge together. 🚴♂️💪 Will says: "I think Mental Health, despite being well publicised for sometime, has still got a stigma attached in talking openly about it, especially with men. Thinking about my own my experience. My condition, came on really quickly, I didn’t know what it was and it was really scary. My mental health suffered as a result. "It's great that we voted for #ANDYSMANCLUB#ANDYSMANCLUB to be our Charity of the Year in Southampton. I was determined, despite my condition, to take part and raise funds." For anyone considering charity work, his advice is: 👉 Choose a cause close to your heart. 👉 Set a goal, no matter how small. 👉 Inspire others by sharing your passion. Through years of charity work, Will and his teams have raise over £150,000! An incredible effort! Will says: "Taking on these challenges reminds me of the power of collective effort. Whether you're participating, organising or simply cheering others on, everyone plays a part in making a difference." By sharing his journey, Will hopes to inspire others to embrace challenges, support one another, and contribute to causes that matter. #CharityWork #Teamwork #MentalHealthAwareness #Dystonia #RoleModel #InternationalMensDay
