➡ New paper out! This paper describes and offers a preliminary evaluation of the food policies implemented in selected Italian cities (#Milan, #Turin, #Bergamo, #Trento, #Lucca, #Livorno, #Rome, and #Matera). As these policies have only been implemented in the last few years, their life cycle is still at an early stage or not yet completed. No mid-term or final monitoring activities have yet been carried out to assess their characteristics and impacts. This prevents any form of interim evaluation and modification for better implementation. This study fills this gap by proposing a #description and a preliminary #evaluation of these policies based on semi-structured interviews with key actors in the selected cities. ✨ INCiTiS-FOOD partners are taking a step towards sustainable urban food policies, as the Aglobe Development Center held an important meeting with the representatives of the Milan Urban Food Policy Pact (MUFPP) and Oyo State Government. Some highlights from the meeting include: 🌱 Dr. Debo Akande, the Executive Adviser to the Governor on Agribusiness, International Cooperation, and Development in Oyo State, kicked off a session providing an overview of Oyo State's food agenda, outlining challenges, interventions, and achievements. 🌱 Cecile Michel from the MUFPP Secretariat emphasised key elements of the MUFPP such as its action framework, monitoring indicators, and regional forums. Notably, she mentioned the absence of a Nigerian city signatory to MUFPP, positioning Oyo State as a potential pioneer. 🌱 In the discussion about the MUFPP and INCiTiS-FOOD project, Dr Benjamin, the Co-coordinator of the INCiTiS-FOOD project, outlined that one of the goals of the project is to guide cities within INCiTiS-FOOD that have not yet become signatories to the MUFPP in joining the initiative. 🌱 An essential upcoming task involves preparing a concise document explaining the motivations behind aspiring to become a signatory city to the MUFPP. Once again, I am excited to be heading to Singapore International Agri-Food Week! This year’s theme, 'Scaling Innovation in Asia's Agri-Food Systems,' aligns perfectly with Aleph Farms' roadmap. As Asia's population is set to play a key role in the projected 9.7 billion global population by 2050—and with its rapidly growing middle class—the pursuit of food security and resilience has never been more critical. Asia’s leadership in addressing demographic and environmental challenges, as well as supply chain complexities, is pivotal in shaping the future of global food systems. Singapore stands at the forefront of this movement, serving as a dynamic hub for food innovation. It functions as a nerve center where producers, suppliers, visionaries, investors, policymakers, and regulators collaborate to develop solutions that redefine what is possible for sustainable nutrition in the region and around the world. I am honored to speak on November 19th at the Sandbox of the Agri-Food Tech Expo Asia (AFTEA), alongside visionary leaders from APAC Society for Cellular Agriculture, including Peter Yu, Kai Yi Carrie Chan, Yuki Hanyu, and Jeff Tripician. Together, we’ll discuss how cellular agriculture is not only enhancing Asia's food systems but also propelling the region toward a future where innovation, policy, and strategic investment converge to unlock the full potential of sustainable solutions that benefit both people and the planet.
