Recently published The Bridgespan Group research shows that a community-driven change approach, where communities are empowered through knowledge, skills, financial resources, and the self-confidence to define and pursue their own development priorities, can lead to more lasting and equitable impact. The research closely looks at nine case studies of Community-Driven Change (CDC), and Saamuhika Shakti is one of them. The case study on Saamuhika Shakti spotlights the actions taken by the initiative to center equity within the community and to co-create solutions from the ground up. #PolicyPaper | In 2015, the United Nations adopted the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, comprising 17 goals aimed at creating a better world. However, there is a question as to whether something is missing from this agenda. Democracy, though part of the vision, is not explicitly listed among the goals. This #AFDResearchPub explores this omission by examining the historical link between democracy and development, as well as the role of development assistance in promoting democracy ▶ https://ow.ly/oRPu50TzKmW Rémy Rioux Jean-David Naudet Matthieu Trichet

more useful guidance on the 'how' to bring about the changes many of us are working for
In the quest for a #WellbeingEconomy, understanding the mechanics of change is vital. These latest insights from member of The Club of Rome Katherine Trebeck for Earth4All discuss the multilayered approach to systemic transformation, from the macro influences of societal norms to the micro initiatives sparking innovation. Through the lens of pioneers breaking new ground and the strategic openings of policy windows, this publication uncovers the dynamic interplay between public opinion, political viability, and the pioneering efforts needed to forge new economic paths. Trebeck shares insights on how non-violent social movements, broad public engagement, and the strategic alignment of policy, politics, and problems can converge to create a tipping point for change. She also argues on why broadening the Overton Window of public acceptability and engaging in large-scale, diverse, and visible actions are crucial in driving the systemic shift towards prioritising wellbeing over traditional economic measures. Explore the multifaceted strategies and roles—from entrepreneurs to inside-outsiders—that are essential in navigating the journey towards a sustainable, equitable future. Collaboration is embedded in the pursuit of public purpose – between and across tiers and spheres of government, with private, not for profit, and community actors, and through market and network instruments. Collaboration came of age in the late 20th century, a consequence of changed global conditions and sweeping public administration reforms that re-shaped policy and practice. Until now. The current global instability, the uneven legacy of reform and the emergence/persistence of public policy challenges suggests we need a new approach. The Irene Longman Oration, taking place on the 20th November is a timely opportunity to think about where we are and to draw inspiration from Irene’s preparedness to challenge the status quo to consider how we can shape what comes next. The Oration begins by asking what is the ‘status quo’ in public policy and administration and draw on the enduring power of ideas about economics and security to provide an answer. It argues that a new approach is required built on values of sustainability, sovereignty, and justice. ‘Strategies’ in collective impact are rarely new programs, but rather activities that create the systems-level alignments and changes that build to population-level outcomes. We’ve seen four major types of such strategies in our consulting and research on collective impact: https://lnkd.in/dkcinmrf #collectiveimpact #socialchange #systemschange #socialimpact

Reflecting on another thought-provoking Chatham House London Conference, where global leaders converged to explore "solutions for a world in conflict." Starting with CNN Fareed Zakaria's vivid storytelling about a current breakdown in the international rules-based order, the event featured an impressive lineup of speakers addressing critical issues from protectionism and post-conflict opportunities to energy security and AI's impact on democracy. #GlobalLeadership #ConflictResolution Some takeaways: • Despite the macro-level political rhetoric in this significant election year, there's cautious optimism and progress at the sector level. • Collaboration is crucial in articulating the consequences of protectionism and policy uncertainty, impacting access to innovation and the cost of resilience, project delivery, and regional competitiveness. • The surge in global debt, coupled with reduced Paris Club involvement, presents both development challenges and opportunities for innovative economic trade models. • There's a concerning "hollowing out" of capability in many government and development agencies, potentially leading to missed opportunities in crucial sectors like energy, resources, and infrastructure. This gap in expertise could hinder the identification and investment in sector-specific opportunities, particularly in areas critical to the energy transition and sustainable development. #ChathamHouse #GlobalPolicy #EconomicInnovation #AIandDemocracy #EnergySecurity #SectorExpertise #chlondon

Is public consultation little more than a token gesture? I know this sounds harsh (and it's not a criticism of the individuals, rather the system at large). But, after a heck of a lot of different engagements around the world, plenty of research and a lot of dialogue with folks that have decades of experience, I'm gonna stick with it. Yes, most 'public consultation' is little more than a token gesture. So, what can we do? Well, the work Mathew Mytka, Adrian Hindes, Samuel Wines and I produced last year is response to the Department of Industry, Science and Resources might help. So, if you're feeling a little courageous and creative, let's have a chat. #innovation #climateadaptation #diversity #codesign #governance #democracy https://lnkd.in/g_HVf3x6
