Today was my first step in achieving an Associate Fellowship at the University of Hull by completing the Passport to Teaching Workshop. The next step is taking what I have learnt and applying it to teach students. This will develop skills that I have gained over many years of outreach and demonstrating labs over the years, as I progress into something that will be brand new for me. Expanding my HE knowledge and pushing myself to the next level. The workshop was a great insight into the planning and execution of teaching in HE, especially with how to retain student engagement levels and how students learn the best.

Teaching is a field that evolves as researchers, neuroscientists and practitioners find more effective ways to reach students. Yet far too many schools still use outdated, ineffective teaching and assessment methods. There is growing evidence that the teachers need to constantly seek more effective ways to help students learn and look for more creative and engaged ways to assess their learning. Best teachers keep learning. They believe in Peter Drucker’s words, “We now accept the fact that learning is a lifelong process of keeping abreast of change.” If you are the one who is constantly pushing yourself to learn about new research in the field of Education… this session is for you.

The ROBERT C. MITCHELL SCHOLARSHIP - Mr. Mitchell graduated from THS/Colestock in 1935. He designated a portion of his estate to the Titusville Alumni Association for scholarships. He passed away on May 18, 2008, with the scholarship established in July 2008. Qualifications for this scholarship are: THS graduating senior, Class Rank, GPA, ACT, SAT, High School Activities, Community Interests, financial Needs with FAFSA Statement attached to the application and two Essay questions: 1) How do you see your degree being used in ten years? 2) If your application based on furthering an exceptional talent or skill through formal education? If yes, present the details on an attached sheet of paper. This scholarship is renewable for up to four years.
