Activism is present in many areas, but it seems to be lacking when it comes to building stronger global alliances within the seafood industry. There needs to be a greater focus on collaboration rather than internal competition between wild fisheries and aquaculture, between domestic products and imports, and among large retailers who often prioritize their own standards over a unified global approach. These internal industry conflicts are distracting us from the bigger picture. Read the full article here: https://lnkd.in/gg8fZGRn

To the seafood industry, the kinds of folks that join gatherings like Clinton Global Initiative can seem pretentious and misinformed about fisheries and aquaculture. All the more reason for seafood execs to get into those rooms. No doubt these high-level events are *way* less fun that Boston or Barcelona. But like it or not, major decisions about the future of the fishing and aquaculture industries are being made there -- with or without the industry. Aker BioMarine ASA CEO Matts Johansen has some advice -- and some words of caution. #seafood #fisheries #aquaculture #sustainability #carbonemissions Builders Vision S2G Ventures https://lnkd.in/gyn_rF63

Responsibility for the Future, the 12th edition of the Conxemar-#FAO Congress, kicked off today in Vigo, serving as a prelude to the 25th International Fair of Frozen Seafood Products, Conxemar, which begins tomorrow. This year the focus of the congress will be on analyzing the Report on the State of World Fisheries and Aquaculture (SOFIA 2024), which reveals a landmark shift: for the first time, aquaculture production has surpassed that of capture fishing, accounting for 51% of global totals in 2022. Throughout the day, panelists explored sustainable fisheries resource management, policy challenges, and value chain innovation. The speakers of the five round tables also underscored the industry's crucial role in supporting populations, creating stable employment, and fostering economic growth and social equity. #eurofishint #fisheries #aquaculture #conxemar #fao

Nations will be coming together at FAO headquarters in Rome shortly for the unique global Committee on Fisheries (COFI), an annual event that will focus on the vital role of fisheries and aquaculture in tackling food insecurity, malnutrition, and poverty. And to highlight to governments and industry how fisheries and aquaculture can be used to alleviate hunger, drive sustainable growth and reverse environmental degradation. For a comprehensive overview of sector trends and projections, read the State of World Fisheries and Aquaculture (SOFIA) report for 2024 published by FAO. It highlights how Blue Transformation is already fostering sustainable growth in aquaculture, improving effectiveness in fisheries management, and raising standards across value chains. One of its unique core deliverables of the UN/FAO is that it provides a neutral forum and key data for these global debates and knowledge sharing meetings. https://lnkd.in/eVyU68XV https://lnkd.in/ea26jXGk https://lnkd.in/eMCJBQAK

Marine Polyculture Food Security and Sustainability Australian research has led to well-developed fishing and aquaculture industries that contribute nutritious food to domestic and global markets. If Australia is to respond to increasing global demand, we will need to develop internationally competitive, sustainable, profitable, high intensity and high production capacity in new and existing food products, and in new and existing regions of Australia. Marine and inland fisheries together with aquaculture provide an important contribution to Australia's food security. Not only is seafood an important source of protein but it also provides a form of income. Australia's fisheries and aquaculture sectors contribute over $5 billion to the economy each year. https://lnkd.in/gaWjaFXP
