How can we create a circular economy? 🤔 We all know that less “take, make, waste” and more “reduce, reuse, recycle” would be good for all of us – and the environment. But what concrete steps can we take to help to create a circular economy? At Sappi, making what we should, not just what we can – from woodfibre-based renewable resources – is central to how we run our business. So, we asked our colleagues – Gustavo Duarte (Head of Business Development), Lasse Lerche (Sales and Technical Customer Service Manager), Georgiana Marin (Sales Manager) and Bram Goorts (Manager Power Plant and Waste Water Treatment) – to tell us what was key to them in creating a circular economy. Tell us – what is key for you? #CircularEconomy #Sustainability #Sappi

Ground Zero for Net Zero! It’s time we laid down a marker, to benchmark ourselves. What we do NOW will dictate where we will be in the next 3 years and the end of the decade. Will we be saying: “It’s too late! If only we’d acted sooner?” The inconvenient truth is that: Procrastination = Mass-Extinction We can’t keep on going through the motions, saying the same old slogans. We must all take action in our businesses and measure those actions and the do more and keep measuring and managing our impact. That’s what the B Corp programme instils into your business. It changes the DNA of your core values to be in tune with Nature and seriously challenges how we can make decisions, every day, that will be for the benefit of all. We have an existential crisis in front of us but we, as businesses, also have the power to change the status quo. The UN Sustanability Development Goals were drawn up in response to the challenge: “How can we save humanity from itself?” It is within our grasp to effect great change when we act together. #Bcorp #UNSDG

🌍 Exciting news 🌍 We’re moving to a climate-friendly production facility! Our new home in Amsterdam’s harbor aligns with our mission to reduce our footprint and deliver climate-positive composites. Every product will maintain a carbon-negative footprint, thanks to: 🌿 5MW solar panels powering bamboo fiber extraction. 🚢 Direct bamboo shipments, reducing transport emissions. From Q2, we’ll consolidate our factories, paving the way for growth and European expansions. Press release: https://lnkd.in/ePcwSgZ8

Recently, our team visited the new Energy from Waste (EfW) facility in East Tullos, Aberdeen, operated by Indaver on behalf of Aberdeen City Council - City Development & Regeneration, Aberdeenshire Council, and Moray Council. The NESS Energy Project processes non-recyclable waste efficiently, meeting the latest European emission standards. The Recycl8 team were joined by Craig Godsman from Breedon Group plc to discuss the potential of using Incinerator Bottom Ash Aggregate (IBAA) in our lower-carbon R8 Mix. We were excited to visit the pioneering NESS facility, where SEPA has approved their IBAA for use in concrete. Promoting and fostering a circular economy is one of Recycl8’s main goals, and re-purposing IBAA locally, within the North-east, would be a true circular economy success story. It would also reduce the carbon emissions associated with transporting the material elsewhere. We look forward to exploring this further with the NESS team. #Recycl8 #lowercarbonconcrete #sustainableconstruction #wastefromenergy #circulareconomy #netzero

🌍 Pushing the Boundaries of the #CircularEconomy At Ardian, we're committed to driving sustainable growth through strategic investments in the circular economy. Our acquisition of Attero in 2023, one of Europe’s most advanced waste management companies, marked a significant step in this direction. Attero’s innovative approach to waste management—from producing biomethane to recycling plastics—sets a new standard for sustainability. We plan to enhance Attero’s capabilities by implementing a carbon capture and storage (CCS) project at the Moerdijk waste-to-energy plant, making it one of the largest producers of carbon-neutral baseload energy in the Netherlands. This project is expected to begin construction in 2025 and become operational by 2029. Exciting progress in our Waste-to-Energy CCS project! This week, we proudly announced that Vantaan Energia Oy is moving forward to the next phase of our Waste-to-Energy Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) project! Earlier in the week, me and Hanna Pitkänen had insightful discussions with key officials and policymakers at the European Parliament and Directorate-Generals (DGs) about the enormous potential of this project. What could this mean for Finland and beyond? - Boost recycling rates across Finland ♻️ - Ensure only non-recyclable waste is used in incineration 🔥 - Capture CO2 emissions from the incineration of non-recyclable waste 🌱 - Provide waste heat to heat up 90% of the buildings in Finland’s 4th largest city This innovative project could redefine sustainability in waste management and energy production, but we can’t do it alone. We’re calling on partners and decision-makers to join us in making this vision a reality.
