Hyderabad-based watertech startup Althion has raised Rs 3.6 crore in a pre-Series A funding round led by BioAngels, with participation from Arun Seth, Om Manchanda, KNK Venkatraman, and Shubham Rastogi. The funds will be used for scaling operations, bolstering R&D, and supporting international market certifications. #Hyderabad-based #watertech startup Althion has secured Rs 3.6 crore (approximately $426,000) in a pre-Series A funding round, led by BioAngels, an arm of the IAN Group (formerly Indian Angel Network). The round also saw participation from prominent investors such as Arun Seth, Om Manchanda, "KNK" Venkataraman KNK, and Shubham Rastogi. This follows a previous $180,000 investment from C-CAMP and other investors. What Does Althion Do? Founded in 2017 by Surya Rao, Althion specializes in developing ultra-pure water systems designed for critical sectors like healthcare, research, and semiconductor industries. The startup’s innovative products are already empowering dialysis centers, biotechnology labs, and top hospitals across India. Althion’s mission is to bridge the gap in the high-cost solutions typically available in these industries, offering more affordable, high-quality alternatives. Strengthening Innovation and Scaling Operations With this new funding, Althion plans to advance its production by piloting 40 units of its tabletop laboratory water purification system. The startup will also ramp up its R&D efforts to develop products that enhance kidney dialysis efficiency and sustainability. Additionally, the company aims to set up a larger facility to scale its operations and meet growing demand. Althion’s proprietary technology, the Althion Remote Monitoring System (ARMS), plays a key role in providing predictive and preventive maintenance, ensuring the longevity and reliability of its systems. By offering cost-effective solutions, Althion seeks to reduce India’s dependency on expensive imported systems while improving operational sustainability across healthcare and research sectors. IndusDC, a venture studio focused on reducing carbon emissions, has announced a ₹100 crore investment in blended finance for FY25 and FY26 to foster technology startups in India’s industrial and energy sectors. The initiative aims to co-build five startups over the next two years, each receiving ₹20 crore to help scale operations and innovate towards a target of cutting 1 gigaton of CO2 emissions by 2035. Backed by Mirik Gogri of Spectrum Impact, and supported by angel investors Ashish Gupta of Helion Ventures and Sri Myneni of Knoah Solutions, IndusDC was founded by Kushant Uppal, Satyanarayanan Seshadri, and Kaustubh Hanmantgad (Kau).
