🌾On June 20th, 2024, ReForest’s partners from The University of Bonn Prof. Eike Luedeling and Simon Swatek participatеd in the workshop “Agroforestry Systems in Agriculture - A Perspective for North Rhine-Westphalia?” organised by the “Forschungsnetzwerk NRW-Agrar” and hosted by Campus Klein-Altendorf, funded by the Ministry of Agriculture and Consumer Protection of NRW. 👩🌾🧑🔬🏫The event brought together a diverse group of agricultural stakeholders, including farmers, scientists from major German universities and research centers, ministry officials, and representatives from the Chamber of Agriculture NRW, which turned the event into a fantastic opportunity to discuss the future of #agroforestry in the region. 🌱📚Prof. Eike Luedeling shared insights into the agroforestry-related research at the Institute for Crop Science and Resource Conservation (INRES) Horticultural Sciences at the University of Bonn , focusing on the ReForest and ABCDR projects. Both projects leverage #decisionanalysis and probabilistic #modeling to explore the holistic benefits of #agroforestry, promoting its adoption across Germany and Europe. 🍏🌳Simon Swatek presented his compelling research on the profitability of apple #alleycropping agroforestry systems in Germany. His findings underscored the critical role of institutional support in advancing agroforestry practices and examined the impact of current investment funding measures in different German federal states. 💡📊📘A key highlight was the outline of the medium-term goals for the ReForest team at Bonn. These include developing a comprehensive catalog of holistic #agroforestrymodels, which is for evaluating the system under various scenarios. This work aims to guide #policymakers and practitioners in crafting effective regulations by providing insights into the effects of institutional barriers and funding options on agroforestry profitability. 🤝The workshop was a blend of informative presentations, engaging discussions, and valuable networking opportunities. It was an excellent platform to share the objectives and progress of the ReForest project with influential stakeholders. 🚀Stay tuned for more updates as we continue to drive the future of agroforestry in Germany and beyond! 🌿🌍#Agroforestry #Sustainability #Agriculture #Research #FutureFarming #HorizonEurope #Synergies Check the blog post of our German partners and learn more: https://lnkd.in/dYPDEEb9

🗺️In the UK, ReForest has five #LivingLabs sites, each with its unique story of #agroforestryinnovation and #sustainability. 🏞The first of them is #CocklePark Farm at Newcastle University. But this isn't your typical university farm. This is due to a person behind, Mr. James Standen, the farm director, whose vision drives the #CocklePark farm's transformation. 💪The challenge? Balancing #financialviability with #sustainablepractices. Since 2017, Cockle Park has embraced #conservationagriculture, implementing direct drilling and diversifying rotations. A standout feature is the 20-hectare #agroforestry plot, with #willow chosen for its rich history in #biomass production and reliable income potential. 🔍📚Research at Cockle Park is ambitious, focusing on soil health, biodiversity, and economic viability. Leveraging #LiDARtechnology and continuous monitoring, they're pioneering informed decision-making in #agroforestry. 💚 🌍 Join us on our journey towards sustainable agriculture and follow our progress on the project website. 👉 #CocklePark has a separate subpage that will be continuously filled in with more information: https://lnkd.in/dNxQfHAe 👉 If you are interested in how the 5 Living Labs in UK were designed, don't hesitate to check the article in the news section: https://lnkd.in/dgnu8_82 #SustainableFarming #Agroforestry #Research #CockleParkFarm #NewcastleUniversity Organic Research Centre

The second team we are presenting at @Innovation Academy 2024 is Foodilizer. Founded by Martin Nedev, student in Business and Entrepreneurship, American University in Bulgaria - AUBG and Angel Hristov, student in Forestry at the Forestry University - Sofia (LTU). Mentor: Victor Penev Foodilizer aims to revolutionize the agricultural sector through sustainable food growing solutions. Recognizing the pressing problems of inefficient nitrogen fertilizer uptake and nutrient leaching, Foodilizer is introducing an organic fertilizer that increases nitrogen availability on demand, thereby reducing reliance on mineral fertilizers, improving yields and restoring soil fertility. With a business model focused on offering a cost-effective solution, Foodilizer's competitive advantage lies in the enhanced ability of specially selected bacteria to fix nitrogen. #IA24 https://lnkd.in/ehRBm-_N
