~ SEA STARS ~ Our seaweed cultivation structures aren't just growing kelp; they're creating thriving habitats for a diverse range of marine life. During a recent inspection, we were delighted to find these Common Starfish (Asterias rubens) making themselves at home amongst our seaweed. These starfish, along with a multitude of other invertebrate species, find shelter and food within our underwater forests. This increased biodiversity attracts seabirds and marine mammals, further enriching the coastal ecosystem. We're proud to contribute to a healthier, more vibrant ocean, one seaweed frond at a time. #SeaGrown #MarineBiodiversity #OceanRestoration #YorkshireCoast #MarineLife #UnderwaterWorld #OceanLife #SeaCreatures #CoastalLife #Starfish #SeaStars #AsteriasRubens #Echinoderms #SustainableAquaculture #OceanRestoration #NorthSea #YorkshireWildlife
Good to see starfish, you don't see them as much on our coastline now but I remember seeing them everywhere when I was a kid.
That's great to see - and agree with Charlie would be great to measure. We certainly have a belief from previous research that the biodiversity improvement is a very real thing.
Lovely! They'll help keep the mussel growth down with a bit of luck. Are they actually on the seaweed or the infrastructure? ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Great post Wave Crookes hope all is well
Inspiring
Lovely to see. Would be great to see some long term biodiversity impact data - showing impact from baseline over time
