THRILLED TO SHARE OUR INSIGHTFUL RESULTS ON #SupervisedMachineLearning StatisticalDesign ofExperimentApproach to Modeling the #Barriers to #EffectiveSnakebiteTreatment in #Ghana. Ministry Of Health, Ghana Ghana Health Service World Health Organization (WHO) Wellcome Trust German Alliance for Global Health Research (GLOHRA) The Global Health Network #SUMMARY: It is well established that #snakebite #envenoming is a severe condition that affects 400,000 people and causes 81,000–138,000 deaths annually, particularly in tropical and subtropical regions of Africa, including #Ghana. The #WorldHealthOrganization aims to reduce this burden by 50% by 2030. However, significant barriers exist to achieving these targets, especially in Sub-Saharan Africa. These barriers include #limited #rigorous #research evidence and the lack of investment in #effectiveantivenoms for #local #snakespecies. Meeting this goal will require #InnovativeResearch to gather #better #SnakebiteData. #ArtificialIntelligence is one promising field that can contribute to this effort. #For the #FirstTime, we have demonstrated how #StatisticalExperimentalDesigns and #MachineLearningAlgorithms can be explored to predict the barriers to effective snakebite treatment. Our six #SupervisedMachineLearningModels consistently predicted key significant barriers to effective snakebite treatment, such as the #HighCostofAntivenoms, #increased use of harmful practices, lack of access to effective antivenoms in remote areas, and resorting to unorthodox and harmful practices (see the attached #figure as evidence). Addressing these barriers through targeted policy interventions, including intensified advocacy, continuous education, community engagement, healthcare worker training, and strategic investments, can enhance the effectiveness of snakebite treatment. #RobustRegulatoryFrameWorks and increased #LocalAntivenomProduction are also needed to address these barriers in #GHANA.

Leveraging local knowledge of health determinants, our consortium partners, Norsaac and Savana Signatures , are helping Ghana Health Service implement community-level activities through the Community Engagement for Health and Well-being (CE4HW) program, a flagship initiative under the USAID-supported Accelerating Social and Behavior Change Activity, led by FHI 360 . With activities across 578 Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) zones in Northern Ghana, the impact has been significant, yielding measurable outcomes! Through close community engagement and collaboration, we're creating supportive environments that lead to improved efficacy in practicing key health behaviors, such as using insecticide-treated nets (ITNs) and adopting best practices for home-based malaria case management. Our approach also emphasizes local resource mobilization, with communities actively contributing to implementation efforts, thereby strengthening Ghana Health Service's CHPS program. The #ASBC Activity #CommunityEngagement approach of #CEWHW to wit; Community Engagement for Health and Well-being as a #flagship #initiative to #generate demand for #health services continue to #anchor the implementation of the USAID funded Accelerating Social and Behavior Change Activity. As #community health #management committees continue to prioritize #health areas under their #Community #Health Action #Plans - #CHAPs, engaging to reduce #malaria #prevalence and #associated #deaths especially as the #rains start across many communities, has occupied the schedules of many #CHMCs. Drastic #reduction in #malaria prevalence has been witnessed across many #CHPS owing to the cascading effect of #CE4HW and #data #utilization. FHI 360 continue to build #local capacities in effort to achieve #localization fully in Ghana.

Patients often encounter barriers such as high costs, limited access to specialists, and systemic inefficiencies. The rising burden of trauma, non-communicable diseases, and maternal health complications only amplifies the demand for surgical services, stretching already constrained resources. It’s clear: Zambia needs bold action. Investments in healthcare infrastructure, workforce development, and equitable access to surgical care are crucial to overcoming these barriers and ensuring every Zambian has access to life-saving procedures. 📢 Exciting Update! Family Planning Supply Chain Assessment in Malawi! We are excited to share our latest report, which was produced by JSI and inSupply Health. The report provides a thorough assessment of the family planning supply chain system in Malawi, highlighting areas for improvement and offering actionable recommendations to enhance system performance. This assessment was made possible through the Injectables Access Collaborative project, funded by PATH in partnership with Clinton Health Access Initiative, Inc., Jhpiego, JSI, and inSupply Health. It wouldn't have been possible without the valuable input from respondents, including the Ministry of Health, Central Medical Stores Trust, regional and district health offices, service delivery points, implementing partners, development partners, and donors. By implementing the recommendations outlined in this report, the program can significantly improve the efficiency and reliability of the family planning supply chain in Malawi, ultimately enhancing the availability and accessibility of essential reproductive health services. 🛖 In rural #Rwanda, the journey to the nearest health facility can range from 2 to 5 hours walk. For #women and #children, this is a significant barrier to accessing essential #healthcare services. Rwanda's #mountainous geography requires adapted service delivery models, and with a rising burden of non-communicable diseases (#NCDs) , healthcare needs are growing. 🏥 The program to expand #HealthPosts(#HP's) in Rwanda is designed to ensure that #rural populations can access #quality health services without #financial hardship, addressing #inequality in health service coverage, particularly for #reproductive, #maternal, #child, and #adolescent health. The #HP's initiative also creates significant job opportunities for clinical and non-clinical staff, with more than 2,548 people currently being employed at these facilities countrywide. 🌍 This initiative can be replicated across #Africa and exemplifies how strategic #investments and #partnerships in #health can lead to substantial social and economic benefits, ensuring we meet the #SDGs by 2030!
