Always empowering to be among women leaders sharing their stories.
And leading other women, let’s not use women as a cross cutting issue we are all human beings and have equal rights, let’s stand up and Show up, as women we are not victims it’s only a mindset
#YMCAVision2030
“It may sometimes feel like a cliché,” said Eunice Ogolo, Director of Girl Capital, CIFF, “but women continue to be disproportionately impacted by many issues, and the empowerment of women will continue to remain relevant.” 💬
Eunice delivered the keynote at a powerful 90-minute discussion on Women’s Leadership. Joining her were three inspiring women from YMCA Kenya, along with a panel of YMCA leaders: Sunita Suna (Asia and Pacific Alliance of YMCAs), Jillian Law (YMCA Scotland), and Mai Jarrar (The East Jerusalem YMCA). The session was moderated by Maria Giraldo (YMCA America Latina & Caribe).
One of the standout moments came from Mai Jarrar, who received a strong round of applause when she said: “When we work with women, we assume the women are victims. In truth, we are not victims. We choose to be weak or strong.” 💪
Last month we welcomed the inaugural 2024 Women in Sport Diploma of Governance cohort 🌟
These 23 remarkable women, all serving on boards of national sporting organisations and national sporting organisations for people with disabilities, are set to enhance their governance capabilities over the next 12 months, led by trainer Annabel Rattigan.
An initiative of the Australian Sports Commission, delivered by the Institute of Community Directors Australia, the program aims to support the Australian sport sector by increasing the pool of accredited women board members nationally, creating connections between women in the sector, addressing structural barriers to leadership roles, and promoting governance practices that champion diversity and ethics in our communities.
The Diploma of Governance is a highly acclaimed, practical qualification for current and aspiring board directors. For this cohort, we tailored the course syllabus with case studies exploring good (and not so good) examples of national sports governance. We look forward to working with the Commission to advance a fairer, more inclusive sector.
Could your organisation or sector benefit from a bespoke governance training program? 🤔

Three years ago, we launched Your Time with a bold vision: to empower girls with the confidence to become leaders in sport. Today, we're proud of the incredible impact and lasting legacy of the programme.
Despite recent breakthroughs in women's sports, a disparity persists in girls' participation in competitive sport and leadership roles.
Your Time is changing this narrative. Through innovative e-learning, peer support, and hands-on experience, we're breaking down barriers and nurturing essential leadership skills.
The numbers speak volumes:
✅ 14,500+ girls engaged in competitive sporting events
✅ 65,000+ hours of learning and competitive activities facilitated
But the true legacy of Your Time lies in the stories beyond these figures.
Participants have gone on to host multiple events, establish girls' sports clubs, and volunteer in local sporting communities. They've become role models, inspiring a ripple effect of participation and leadership among their peers.
Your Time is more than a programme; it's a movement. We're redefining what's possible for girls in sport, one leader at a time.

Empowering Girls in Waru: Global Girls Leadership Initiative – Session 2 Recap
On Saturday, 21st September, we hosted the second session of our Global Girls Leadership Initiative in the Waru community. This session centered on the theme of community and its various structures, offering the girls a chance to reflect on the roles and dynamics within their local environment. The session was highly interactive, encouraging the girls to explore five key areas of their community:
1.Home – The girls shared insights into their families, discussing the roles and responsibilities within their households. They explored the similarities and differences between families in their community.
2.Religion – They identified the diverse religious practices in their community, gaining a better understanding of the beliefs that shape their environment.
3.Leadership – The girls learned about the various leadership roles within Waru, such as the king, youth leader, and women leader. They explored the responsibilities that come with each position, fostering a deeper appreciation for community governance.
4.Social – The girls examined how different members of their community, including men, women, and children, relax and spend their leisure time, highlighting gender and age-based differences.
5.Work – They also discussed the various occupations in Waru, such as farming and trading, understanding how these roles contribute to the community’s economy.
Throughout the session, the girls actively engaged in discussions, gaining a deeper understanding of their community's structure. By the end of the day, they had developed a visual representation of their community's layers, illustrating key elements they appreciate as well as those they would like to see improved.
This session was a significant milestone in our journey to empower girls in the Waru community. The girls not only learned about their community but also began to see their own roles and responsibilities in shaping it. We’re excited to build on this foundation in future sessions as we continue to foster leadership, critical thinking, and empowerment among these young women.Stay tuned for more updates as we progress in this transformative journey with the Global Girls Leadership Initiative!

🥁 Almost two years and a lot of paperwork later, The Outdoor Industry Women's Association (OIWA) is officially a 501(c)3!
🔊 A resounding shoutout to Taylor Murphy for founding and driving this incredible organization to fruition, and another to Jenna Celmer for expert guidance!
💡 The idea for OIWA was born a few years back when women from across the industry came together to express their frustrations with the outdoor industry’s lack of gender diversity — what we learned is that there are SO MANY female-identifying folks in the industry who have ideas/goals/companies that WILL make the outdoors a better place to work and recreate, but also require funding.
🧮 Because women typically receive less than 2% of VC funding and most grant processes require the applying organization to have nonprofit status, we looked at what we could control and formed this nonprofit organization specifically to help female-identifying folks access funds through the grantmaking process.
🤝 I’m honored to have been invited to apply my passion for elevating female-identifying voices/ideas/initiatives to OIWA’s Board of Directors. Amazing things are on the horizon with Taylor Murphy as our Executive Director and Abigail H.’s outreach expertise as our Director of Community Impact.
#OutdoorIndustry#501c3#Launch
Introducing The Outdoor Industry Women’s Association (OIWA), a 501(c)3 organization dedicated to elevating the leadership, ideas, and initiatives of female identifying folks in a male dominated outdoor industry. We plan to drive equity and innovation for female founders in this space by facilitating resources to apply for grants that fund their for-profit business ventures.
It’s simple: we want to see more female identifying folks as leaders in the outdoor industry. But this isn’t just about gender. It’s about taking action, at scale, to evolve the outdoors.
Welcome to our association. We’re so happy you’re here.
