🤝 At nenu2PHAr, we emphasize fostering strong partnerships with industry leaders to align with the dynamic requirements and standards of the market. Here's a prime example of our partnership between Bel, the dairy and fruit multinational group, and technical project partners : IPC - Centre Technique Industriel de la Plasturgie et des Composites, a French Technical Industrial Centre, ITENE, a Spanish Technological Centre in R&D and Bio-Mi Sustainable Solutions, an SME manufacturer, R&D oriented enterprise from Croatia. 🎯 The goal was to produce a PHA-based plastic cup for food packaging purposes that meet Bel’s speficications. ✅ Project results: 🔎 Regarding flexible and rigid films, IPC - Centre Technique Industriel de la Plasturgie et des Composites, ITENE and Bio-Mi Sustainable Solutions partners of the nenu2PHAr project were able to produce prototypes for each application to benchmark the petrochemical counterparts. Concerning the mechanical properties and a stable processing, most of the target values had been achieved. 🔒 However, the primary challenge encountered with bioplastic materials in plastic packaging applications remains their inadequate barrier properties. While incorporating PHA material into the formulations has shown promise in reducing permeability, it has also posed challenges such as a negative effect processing window and material adhesion issues, ultimately hindering pilot-scale processing feasibility. ➡️ To address this issue, the MNL technology developed by IPC - Centre Technique Industriel de la Plasturgie et des Composites offers a potential solution for enhancing barrier properties, presenting a pathway for improvement in future iterations of the project. 🔔 Stay tuned for further developments. #PHA #Bioplastics #Nenu2PharProject #EUProject #Biodegradable #Bioplastics #Sustainability #Innovation Samira El Bir Valentin Thoury

Did you know that global #bioplastics production capacity is expected to increase ⬆ from 2.18 million tonnes in 2023 to 7.43 million tonnes in 2028?
