Seventeen years ago, when I became a leader in nursing, I faced a tough challenge. I had to figure out how to be friends with some of my team members while also being their boss. I made sure that being friends with me didn’t mean someone got special treatment. I supported everyone’s growth, offering guidance and opportunities to learn new things. By being a mentor, I helped build a culture where we all wanted to improve and succeed. This experience taught me a lot about leadership. I learned that being clear about my role, leading by example, creating a supportive team, dealing with problems fairly, focusing on everyone’s growth, and always trying to improve are key to balancing work and friendships. These lessons helped me become a better leader, making sure I could be a friend and still make the best decisions for our team. Join our upcoming workshop to dive deep into our journey, our vision, and how we're making a difference in healthcare together. Let's explore the impact we're destined to make. 👩⚕️ Nurse Leaders, we’re facing challenging times. Resources are tight, and expectations are high, yet our teams and patients need us more than ever. Senior #nurseleaders and #healthcare #leadership: Saving time for your nurse leaders that are closest-to-care is not optional. It's imperative. "Time" is almost always the first barrier we hear about when we start a program, but it is definitely not at the top of a nurse leader's list when we are done. That is because in our Skilled Nurse Leader© Program, this is one of the first foundations we focus on. We use evidence-informed tools to guide nurse leaders to reflect on their current time challenges and build new habits to maximize what little time they do have for what matters most. This is a skill that's not as simple as "time management." It's about 𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐞 𝐨𝐰𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩. We teach it...and it works. In one of our client sessions in September a direct-care nurse leader participant said: "𝘞𝘰𝘸...𝘐 𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘺 𝘥𝘪𝘥𝘯'𝘵 𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘺 𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘭𝘪𝘻𝘦 𝘩𝘰𝘸 𝘮𝘶𝘤𝘩 𝘐 𝘊𝘈𝘕 𝘥𝘰 𝘵𝘰 𝘵𝘢𝘬𝘦 𝘣𝘢𝘤𝘬 𝘴𝘰𝘮𝘦 𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘵𝘳𝘰𝘭 𝘰𝘧 𝘮𝘺 𝘵𝘪𝘮𝘦...𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘰𝘶𝘨𝘩 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘦 𝘪𝘴 𝘯𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳 𝘦𝘯𝘰𝘶𝘨𝘩 𝘰𝘧 𝘪𝘵." Do YOU want to help your nurse leaders succeed with this foundational skill and learn more about The Skilled Nurse Leader© Program? 🌟 Leadership and Collaborative Practice in Healthcare 🌟 During a recent lecture, I explored the importance of leadership and collaborative practice in nursing, which are vital in delivering high-quality, patient-centered care. Here are a few key takeaways: 🤝 Collaboration: Effective teamwork among healthcare professionals ensures better patient outcomes, enhanced safety, and improved satisfaction. Communication tools like SBAR (Situation, Background, Assessment, Recommendation) exemplify how structured collaboration supports safe handoffs and continuity of care. 🌟 Leadership: I learned about various leadership styles, from transformational leaders who inspire change to democratic leaders who value input and collaboration. The most effective leaders foster teamwork, communicate clearly, and empower others to reach shared goals. 💡 Key Reflection: Leadership isn’t about a title; it’s about influencing positive change, whether through formal roles or as informal leaders at the bedside. Nurses, as advocates and coordinators, exemplify leadership daily, making a real difference in patient lives. The intersection of leadership and collaboration reminds me why I’m passionate about nursing—working together to create a supportive and innovative healthcare environment. #NursingLeadership #CollaborationInHealthcare #StudentNurseJourney

🌟 #MentorshipMonday: Be a Visionary Leader 🌟 Last week, we had the honor of hosting the recipient of the Visionary Leader Award on our NursesWithVoices podcast, the founder of DNPs of Color. This inspiring initiative ensures that Doctor of Nursing Practice professionals of color feel proud of their accomplishments and know they are not alone. Today, I want to share a story from my nursing career to inspire you. Early in my career, I noticed a significant gap in support for new nurses transitioning into the profession. Subsequently, I noticed a similar gap as a new nurse leader. Despite the challenges, I envisioned a mentoring program that would bridge these gap, providing guidance and fostering confidence in new nurses and nurse leaders. Through persistence and collaboration, I launched a successful mentoring initiative that has since helped nurses find their footing and excel in their careers. My journey is a powerful reminder that visionary leadership can transform our profession. Here are a few ways you can start being a visionary leader: 1. Identify a Need: Look for areas in your workplace or community that need improvement. Your unique perspective can lead to innovative solutions. 2. Leverage Mentorship: Seek mentors who can guide you and provide support. Likewise, be a mentor to others, fostering a culture of growth and collaboration. 3. Breakthrough Barriers: Don’t let obstacles deter you. Use them as stepping stones to build resilience and find creative ways to overcome them. 4. Celebrate Diversity: Embrace and promote diversity within the nursing community. By supporting each other, we create a more inclusive and dynamic profession. My hope is that you draw inspiration from my story and strive to be visionary leaders. Together, we can break through barriers, uplift one another, and create lasting change in nursing. Remember, every great achievement starts with a single bold step. Join us and be part of this transformative journey.
