Seventeen years ago, when I became a leader in nursing, I faced a tough challenge. I had to figure out how to be friends with some of my team members while also being their boss. I made sure that being friends with me didn’t mean someone got special treatment. I supported everyone’s growth, offering guidance and opportunities to learn new things. By being a mentor, I helped build a culture where we all wanted to improve and succeed. This experience taught me a lot about leadership. I learned that being clear about my role, leading by example, creating a supportive team, dealing with problems fairly, focusing on everyone’s growth, and always trying to improve are key to balancing work and friendships. These lessons helped me become a better leader, making sure I could be a friend and still make the best decisions for our team. 🌟 #MentorshipMonday: Be a Visionary Leader 🌟 Last week, we had the honor of hosting the recipient of the Visionary Leader Award on our NursesWithVoices podcast, the founder of DNPs of Color. This inspiring initiative ensures that Doctor of Nursing Practice professionals of color feel proud of their accomplishments and know they are not alone. Today, I want to share a story from my nursing career to inspire you. Early in my career, I noticed a significant gap in support for new nurses transitioning into the profession. Subsequently, I noticed a similar gap as a new nurse leader. Despite the challenges, I envisioned a mentoring program that would bridge these gap, providing guidance and fostering confidence in new nurses and nurse leaders. Through persistence and collaboration, I launched a successful mentoring initiative that has since helped nurses find their footing and excel in their careers. My journey is a powerful reminder that visionary leadership can transform our profession. Here are a few ways you can start being a visionary leader: 1. Identify a Need: Look for areas in your workplace or community that need improvement. Your unique perspective can lead to innovative solutions. 2. Leverage Mentorship: Seek mentors who can guide you and provide support. Likewise, be a mentor to others, fostering a culture of growth and collaboration. 3. Breakthrough Barriers: Don’t let obstacles deter you. Use them as stepping stones to build resilience and find creative ways to overcome them. 4. Celebrate Diversity: Embrace and promote diversity within the nursing community. By supporting each other, we create a more inclusive and dynamic profession. My hope is that you draw inspiration from my story and strive to be visionary leaders. Together, we can break through barriers, uplift one another, and create lasting change in nursing. Remember, every great achievement starts with a single bold step. Join us and be part of this transformative journey. 🌟 Being Kingdom-Minded as a Nurse Leader 🌟 As nurse leaders, our impact extends far beyond the walls of our hospitals. Inspired by the powerful teachings of Craig Groeschel, I believe that being "kingdom-minded" means embracing a mission greater than ourselves. 🌍✨ Here are a few key principles to incorporate into our leadership: 1. Serve with Purpose: Every day offers a chance to serve our patients and our teams. By fostering a culture of compassion and excellence, we can create an environment where everyone feels valued and empowered to deliver their best. 2. Empower Others: True leadership involves lifting others up. Encourage your team members to share their ideas and strengths. When we invest in developing future leaders, we not only improve the quality of care but also build a stronger community. 3. Act with Integrity: In every decision we make, let’s commit to transparency and ethics. Our actions set the tone for our teams and instill trust among our colleagues and patients. 4. Cultivate a Growth Mindset: Change is constant in healthcare. Embracing a growth mindset allows us to adapt, innovate, and thrive in the face of challenges. Let’s encourage our teams to view obstacles as opportunities for learning and development. 5. Nurture Relationships: Building strong, authentic relationships with our patients, colleagues, and the wider community is fundamental. It’s in these connections that true healing occurs, and where we can make the most significant impact. Together, let’s lead with a kingdom mindset, recognizing that we are not just healthcare providers, but also light-bearers in our communities. When we align our leadership with a greater purpose, we can inspire those around us and foster a culture of hope and healing. #NurseLeadership #KingdomMindset #Healthcare #InspirationalLeadership #CraigGroeschel #CompassionInCare

"People may not always hear your words, but they will always feel your attitude." – John Maxwell In nursing leadership, the way we approach each moment speaks louder than anything we say. It's not just about what we communicate; it’s about how we show up for our teams and patients—day in and day out. True leadership means leading with empathy, resilience, and an unwavering commitment to excellence. When your attitude reflects compassion and purpose, it inspires those around you to feel valued and seen. In an industry often burdened by burnout, it’s that presence and positive energy that motivates teams to push forward, even through the toughest challenges. At Nurses Take The Lead, we empower healthcare leaders to elevate their leadership style, fostering an environment where people feel appreciated and heard. When leaders embody a values-driven approach, we don’t just manage teams—we build cultures where every nurse can thrive, leading to better performance and greater outcomes for both staff and patients. #LeadershipMatters #NursesLead #AttitudeInAction #PeoplePerformanceProfit
