The future of cycling in Italy: numbers and opportunities The #bike market in Italy is going through a phase of great transformation. A study by Bain & Company Italia highlighted significant data and trends that offer food for thought for the entire sector. In 2020, thanks to the bike bonus, sales exceeded 2 million units (+18% over 2019). Despite an average drop of 17% between 2021 and 2023, the industry's turnover reached €2.7 billion in 2023 (+50% compared to 2018). With more than 330,000 units sold in 2022, #ebikes now represent 20% of the market, making cycling accessible to an increasingly wide audience. However, the sector is exposed to dependence on Asian components and geopolitical variables, with parts imports growing by 79% between 2020 and 2021. In spite of the challenges, Italian exports show a positive balance of EUR 75 million, thanks to strong international demand for Italian-made products. This positive trend is also reflected in #employment, with a 16% increase in employment in the bike and parts sector between 2020 and 2022, totalling 17,600 workers. To develop the full potential of cycle tourism, we need supportive policies and investment in cycling infrastructure. Italy can consolidate its leadership in an increasingly competitive global market. #ShipToCycle, a company attentive to the dynamics of a constantly changing and expanding sector, offers logistics solutions for bike transport at an international level, responding to the new needs of a market increasingly oriented towards sustainable mobility and cycle tourism. France invest 2 billion euro i order to double bicycle network to 100 000 km 2030. Sweden increased the network with 1 cm per capita 2023. Paris is proving that bicycles can be a viable mode of transport in a major city. Cars account for just 4.3% of all trips within city limits, while bikes make up a solid 11.2%. Even on trips between the city and inner suburbs, bicycles (14%) outnumber cars (11.8%). During the morning rush hour, the gap widens to 18.9% of trips made by bike versus just 6.6% by car. This shift is due to a cultural change spurred on by Covid-19, as well as active promotion of cycling by the Paris city authorities. Source: https://lnkd.in/dGVPTfBz

𝗨.𝗦. 𝗠𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻 𝗘-𝗯𝗶𝗸𝗲𝘀 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗸𝗲𝘁 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟰-𝟮𝟬𝟯𝟭. 𝗚𝗹𝗼𝗯𝗮𝗹 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵 𝗥𝗲𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 The U.S. market for mountain e-bikes, valued at USD 1.05 billion in 2024, is projected to experience significant growth at a CAGR of 15.8% from 2024 to 2031, fueled by the numerous advantages they offer over traditional mountain bikes. Electric mountain bikes (e-MTBs) are gaining popularity due to their ability to enable riders to tackle challenging trails and cover longer distances without exertion. The assistance provided by the electric motor makes traversing difficult terrains and steep hills easier, while also presenting a sustainable alternative to gasoline-powered bikes, aligning with increasing environmental concerns and government regulations promoting greener transportation options. The U.S., contributing 2.02% to the global revenue share in the mountain e-bikes market in 2023, benefits from a thriving ecosystem of innovative manufacturers supported by government incentives like the Electric Bicycle Incentive Kickstart for the Environment (E-BIKE) Act, which offers a refundable tax credit on new electric bike purchases. These initiatives are expected to raise awareness and drive the adoption of e-bikes among the general population. 𝗧𝗼 𝗞𝗻𝗼𝘄 𝗚𝗹𝗼𝗯𝗮𝗹 𝗦𝗰𝗼𝗽𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗗𝗲𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗼𝗳 𝗨.𝗦. 𝗠𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻 𝗘-𝗯𝗶𝗸𝗲𝘀 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗸𝗲𝘁. The Bike Benefit Boom in Finland 🚴♂️🚴♀️ Bike benefit programs are reshaping cycling in Finland, driving sustainability, fitness, and mobility like never before. Here are some fascinating insights: ✅ 80% of bike benefit users increased their cycling after adopting the program. ✅ On average, bike benefit users cycled 1,220 km in 2023, over five times the Finnish average of 230 km. ✅ 45% reduced car use, cutting an average of 40 km of driving per week. ✅ 55% improved their physical fitness, and 95% would recommend the benefit to a colleague. Interestingly, 70% of bike benefit bikes are e-bikes, and the average cost of these bikes is about 3200€. Without the bike benefit, 80% of users said they wouldn’t have purchased a similar bike. One striking insight: we’re seeing a fivefold increase in cycling when the bicycle is an e-bike. What would the nationwide benefits be if every working-age individual increased their cycling fivefold? The potential impact on physical health, reduced car use, and even healthcare savings could be transformative for Finland. Additionally, the rise of e-bikes and bike benefit programs is driving growth in the bike service sector as well as sales in parts and accessories. Unlike traditional bicycles, modern e-bikes are advanced technical devices that most people can no longer service themselves. As a result, more consumers are ready to pay for professional maintenance, creating new jobs and opportunities within the service industry. The bike benefits are not a cost for employers or tax authorities, making it a highly effective incentive. Should we somehow make these programs even more compelling for employees to further encourage choosing a bike over a car? The potential benefits—for individuals, employers, and society—are enormous. Finland has not had economic growth in 16 years, so we can’t afford the situation as it is, we need growth and we need healthier people. Could similar programs drive these results in other European countries? Let’s discuss—what do you think? 🚲 #CyclingFinland #Sustainability #Bikebenefit #ebikes #MobilityInnovation #Publichealth

We are often asked, if bike sharing can also work beyond large cities and metropolitan regions. The answer is a definite yes! Bike sharing also brings many advantages to the transportation network of smaller cities, as well as suburban and rural areas! Here are a few examples: ➡ nextbike Niederösterreich, our bike share offer for Lower Austria - powered by Radland Niederösterreich - not only provides a large-scale sustainable mobility option for roughly 60 municipalities across the region, it also surpasses its personal best on a regular basis. Already this year, rentals for the first two months almost tripled! ➡ E-bikes turn hilly terrains and longer distances into a breeze. By providing e-bikes for rural areas and more challenging terrains, we turn cycling not only into an elemental means of transport, we also make it accessible to a broader audience. Here are a few examples: BBK Klimabizi a small bike share scheme for the Urdaibai Region in Spain, EinfachMobil a supra-regional multi-modal scheme for the Ortenau region and many more. ➡ Last but not least we would like to share a very special initiative: Thanks to a special commuters’ tariff, users of the schemes Bergisches E-Bikes, RVK E-Bike, Eifel E-Bike and RSVG_Bike e-bikes, only pay a discounted price when they rent one of our bikes during the night. Thus, they can easily use a nextbike when they cycle home after work and rely on the same bike to get back to work the next day. What other initiatives do you know of that make bike sharing in rural areas more attractive? #BikeSharing #SustainableMobility #BikeSharevolution #PublicTransport

Dubai has witnessed a remarkable achievement with over 7 million bicycle trips recorded in the last four years, resulting in a significant reduction of more than 4 million kg of carbon emissions—equivalent to removing 1,200 cars from the roads. The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) and Careem announced this milestone on Tuesday, highlighting the success of their bike-sharing service launched in 2020. Careem Bike has now become the largest pedal-assist bike-sharing network in the region, featuring 197 stations and approximately 1,800 bikes available for rent. In 2023 alone, users made over 2.3 million trips, reflecting a 66.3% increase from the previous year. This surge indicates a growing preference for cycling, particularly for first- and last-mile trips, which accounted for 76% of all rides. #Dubai #BikeSharing #Sustainability #CarbonReduction #RTA #Careem #GreenTransport
