With just a day to go until #ClimateWeekNYC, expectations are high. We need to act fast and to reverse the effects of climate change. Incremental action is simply insufficient. Companies must switch from defining strategies and goals to swift and effective action. Slow progress is hurting business and society, while the gap between where we are and where we need to be continues to grow. This is why we will be in New York next week, among the world’s most influential leaders in sustainability. To lead. To demonstrate. And to collaborate. We will share our expertise to help companies worldwide accelerate towards a just, low-carbon economy. And we will listen and learn all we can from others. It’s time to step up and accelerate climate action. Will you join us? Follow all the action from #ClimateWeekNYC at https://lnkd.in/e3eUM_e2 #ClimateChange #LowCarbonEconomy

.#UNGA79's Summit of the Future and the SDG Moment have served as powerful reminders of the critical steps needed to address #climatechange and the urgent need for global #collaboration. The adoption of the Pact for the Future is a promising step, advocating for cross-sector partnerships to enhance progress on the #ParisAgreement and #SDGs. While challenges remain regarding the SDGs, inspiring global advancements show that significant progress by 2030 is achievable through equitable and #inclusive transitions. Key takeaway was the recognition of green finance as essential in combating climate change. Discussions underscored the necessity to boost global cooperation and investment for effective solutions. This shared commitment among nations inspires hope for a sustainable and equitable future. #LetsChangeEnergy Picture credits: United Nations

We had an interesting conversation during the 2024 Sustainability Leadership Class at United People Global We explored the concept of degrowth: How much should a country's economy grow, and at whose expense? When should that growth be strategically altered? But most importantly is the concept of climate finance. The call for the Global North to provide climate finance is an extension of this degrowth discussion. Considering the uncertainty and complexity of global challenges, should countries adopt degrowth? And if they do, will they still contribute to climate finance? This year's COP (Conference of the Parties) looks so interesting and I'm eager to get an opportunity to participate physically . We can only get better #COP29Azerbaijan #Ruthie #God'smyDad

After spending the week in NYC, with the city drenched in Climate Week and United Nations General Assembly, and our attendance at this morning's United Nations CMO Forum, here are my 3 take-aways from the many conversations we've been a part of this week: 1) Slow Progress on the UN's Sustainable Development Goals: The 2024 SDG report reveals that only 17% of targets are on track, with nearly half showing minimal or moderate progress. Many goals, including poverty reduction and clean energy access, are stagnating or regressing, raising concerns about meeting the 2030 targets. But there is hope (see point 3 below). 2) Focus on Climate Action: Sustainability and climate change were at the top of the agenda, with leaders stressing the urgency of achieving net-zero emissions. These efforts were linked to broader goals like biodiversity protection and the energy transition. 3) Achieving the SDGs is probably the biggest innovation and growth opportunity for businesses and economies of the next 10 years: The Business & Sustainable Development Commission estimates that achieving the SDGs could open up at least $12 trillion in market opportunities by 2030 across four key sectors—food and agriculture, cities, energy and materials, and health and well-being. These sectors alone could generate 380 million new jobs, mostly in developing countries. In short: The world's biggest problems are the world biggest opportunities for impact and growth, and businesses have both the responsibility and the opportunity to thrive by creating new solutions instead of new problems. Driving Sustainable Change: Urgent Action to Combat Climate Change and Achieve the SDGs" Are you ready to tackle one of the most pressing challenges of our time while advancing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)? Climate change is not just an environmental issue; it's a threat to our economies, societies, and the achievement of all SDGs. The past decade has been marked by record-breaking temperatures and unprecedented climate-related disasters, underscoring the urgency for transformative action. If we continue on our current trajectory, global temperatures could rise beyond 3°C, leading to devastating consequences for ecosystems and communities worldwide. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) emphasizes the need for deep, rapid, and sustained reductions in greenhouse gas emissions. To limit global warming to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels – a key target of SDG 13 – emissions must be cut by almost half by 2030. This requires immediate and ambitious efforts across all sectors of society. While progress has been made, particularly in renewable energy investments, more is needed to accelerate the transition to a low-carbon economy. Businesses, investors, and governments must work together to transform energy, industry, transport, food, agriculture, and forestry systems, aligning with SDG 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy), SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure), and SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production). Despite increasing climate finance flows, the current levels fall short of what is required to meet the targets set forth in the Paris Agreement and the SDGs. It's essential to redirect investments towards climate-resilient infrastructure and sustainable development initiatives, in line with SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities) and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals). Individuals also have a crucial role to play in driving change. By adopting sustainable practices, advocating for policy reforms, and supporting climate action initiatives, we can contribute to achieving multiple SDGs, including SDG 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation) and SDG 15 (Life on Land). As we work towards combating climate change, let's remember that our actions have far-reaching implications for the future of our planet and its inhabitants. By prioritizing climate action and advancing the SDGs, we can build a more resilient, equitable, and sustainable world for present and future generations. https://lnkd.in/dUakyHaf #ClimateAction #SDGs #Sustainability #GlobalGoals #ClimateCrisis
