Collaboration between Conflict Research Network West Africa and UNU-WIDER - United Nations University World Institute for Development Economics Research is an example of North-South research partnership that not only recognizes the voices of researchers in West Africa, but also create a platform for these voices to shape how we think about violent conflict and building resilience in conflict affected communities.

The EU Communication Directors’ Network meets today in Brussels to address key communication challenges and opportunities for the European Union globally. Topics will include tackling foreign information manipulation and interference in a Team Europe spirit, addressing the challenges of communication in sub-Saharan Africa, engaging with young audiences, and strengthening connections with EU citizens in third countries.

❌ The new @European Commission must prioritise partnership over competition. The European Union is shifting its focus on short-term economic self-interest and an outdated security approach which disregards people-centred solutions, ignoring its international cooperation Treaty obligations to fight poverty and inequality and to promote human rights. It is in the EU's interest to maintain its leading position in promoting sustainable development, to build trust with partner countries and to work for global wellbeing, peace and stability. We have sent a letter to the President-designate of the @European Commission, Ms @Ursula von der Leyen to raise the concerns and proposals of European civil society working on international cooperation and sustainable development. A war of numbers? All invisible. So it looks like we are not in a war. That's why I explicitly refuse to use words, and photoshop. I have added a few mass extinction events and the entire Baltic to Kamchatka to the Time-Space model. Very concerning to see up to 80% of all species replaced. ✍️ There is a solution, not more machines! Create a small efficient team that transforms television, radio, newspapers. Bring positive constructif news. Be inspired by The Guardian. Good constructif news is a human right, stop the bad unconstructif news. If we are not in a war, the least we can say is that we are ruled by (media)tirans. Being an (media)asshole is perfectly legal. Making our children sick starts looking like a duty. In a world beset by so much turmoil and crisis, one of the most important voices advocating for enforcement of International Humanitarian Law is the International Committee of the Red Cross - ICRC, based in #Geneva. That’s why I was honored to recently contribute in a small way to the ICRC’s 34th International Conference, which brought together nearly 200 leaders of the global International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies - IFRC, as well as officials from nearly 200 Member States. On this occasion, though, my primary role was to look back at the 33rd International Conference, held in 2019 - along the theme of "Act Today, Shape Tomorrow" - to explore to what pledges the attendees had committed themselves; then, in the years since, illuminate their efforts to implement those pledges. This is important to evaluate, not just as historical context for this fresh milestone global gathering, but as a form of accountability for participants: to ensure they ultimately turn words into deeds. From my exhaustive research, I crafted the script for the video below, shown at the 34th IC - with its own theme of "Navigate Uncertainty, Strengthen Humanity" - as a combination of relevant backstory and progress report. I then handed it to my #RedCross colleagues, so can’t claim responsibility for those who skillfully wove together the emotive images and music.
