Nervous system regulation isn’t about being calm all the time. Wait, what? Until recently not many people had heard of nervous system regulation A few years later and it’s everywhere. Which is wonderful, as it’s a total game changer ✨ However, as with many ‘new’ ideas (it’s not new, it’s now just popular), it can get misunderstood. Regulating our nervous system doesn’t mean that we’re aiming for permanent calm. It means that we’re able to ebb and flow with our emotions and stress, without being flooded by them. Let's tackle it together with these 5 interactive steps to ground yourself: 1. **Observe Your Surroundings**: Take a moment to notice and name 5 things you see around you right now. 2. **Listen Intently**: Identify 4 sounds you can hear. Focus on each sound and how it contributes to your environment. 3. **Connect with Your Body**: Describe 3 physical sensations you're feeling at this moment. Are they warm, cold, tense, or relaxed? 4. **Engage Your Senses**: Take a deep breath and notice 2 scents around you. Are they familiar? Do they bring comfort? 5. **Taste Tranquility**: Finally, take a mindful pause and notice 1 thing you can taste. Is it sweet, salty, or savory?
