A great example from HearstLab’s own Katie Bailey of why mission-driven work matters and how it can be a powerful force for good! 👇👇👇
Doing “mission driven” work is so much more than just feeling somewhat good about how you spend your time... Throughout my teenage & college years, I was a hardcore (#1 nationwide) American Cancer Society fundraiser and Relay for Life campus leader. We raised millions and brought together thousands in the fight against cancer. Yesterday, I received this serendipitous text exchange from one of those peers, over 10 years later. This is it. This is why. Whether you’re doing the fundraising for the research or the actual research… Funding the solution or building it… Keep going. Keep talking about it. The world is such a better place when we all do our part to move the needle forward.

Today is National Cancer Survivors Day, and we're celebrating the courage, resilience and triumphs of survivors like Olivia, who inspire us with their incredible strength and positivity. Olivia was diagnosed with stage IV alveolar rhabodmyosarcoma in 2019 when she was only 9 years old. Olivia endure 2 surgeries, 66 weeks chemo and 28 rounds of proton radiation therapy, all while keeping a positive attitude, even during the hardest moments. Today, Olivia is cancer-free. Now is the perfect time to rally behind kids like Olivia, whose stories remind us why we do what we do. Here's how you can get involved: Plan an event: Organize a virtual or in-person gathering, neighborhood walk or social media challenge to support the OliviaStrong Foundation, Inc. Share Olivia’s Journey: Inspire others by sharing Olivia’s story, or your own, on social media and through personal messages. People connect deeply with stories of hope and triumph. Set a Fundraising Goal: Challenge yourself to raise funds that directly contribute to the lifesaving mission of the OliviaStrong Foundation, Inc. https://lnkd.in/e3-PaTht

💜 At Children with Cancer UK, we couldn’t be doing what we’re doing, investing in research and supporting families, without our amazing fundraisers, large and small. 🧡 Seb was inspired by his sister, Libby, to get involved and help fundraise to support children facing their own cancer journey, like his sister Libby. 🏃 Have you been inspired by Seb? 👉 Find out via the link, how you can get involved and support Children with Cancer UK to help fund research into childhood cancers and support children with cancer and their families. https://bit.ly/3Px0OL0.

We're finally able to share this project with you all. For the last 2 years we've worked with Karen Hamlen, Ben Hood and an incredible group of teenagers and young adults (TYAs) to create TYAR.org. An age-appropriate resource which helps to inform TYAs about Clinical Trials, Biobanking and Genomics. The entire project was produced by HT; Logo, graphics, branding, videos, animations, photographs and website. We've had the chance to meet some amazing and inspiring TYAs throughout the project. At each stage they we're consulted to see what they'd like the resource to look like and what information it should contain. Take a look and let us know what you think! #creatingyourvision #video #animation #photography #webdesign
After 2 years working with a great group of young people Ben Hood and I are finally there. The TYAR.org websites is launched, we couldn’t have done it without young people’s help, along with an array of parents and professionals. Never underestimate what young people can do. Massive thanks to Cancer Research UK (CRUK), Teenage Cancer Trust, Newcastle Hospitals Charity and HT

Watch my full TEDx talk on YouTube titled, "Seeing Life from a Different Lens" where I talk about the three steps I took to overcome the emotional trauma of surviving a rare childhood eye cancer called retinoblastoma and how you too can see the world through a different lens with love, empathy and compassion. My Call to Action for you: Before you donate money to childhood cancer, donate your time with other survivors. I have witnessed first hand what happens when we let connections unite us and what happens when we let our differences divide us. The former is the world I want to live in. https://lnkd.in/gAhXCgdf TED Conferences TEDX #TEDTalks

And here's the video
Future of Work Expert & Entrepreneur. Founder of Workathon network consultancy. Award-winner writer and co-host of The Nowhere Office podcast. Helps you do your best work.
Fundraisers abound. I know this. So I will keep this short. I'm celebrating the work of the late great Jessica Morris who set up OurBrainBank for Glioblastoma whilst she was battling and then dying from it because it needs to turn - she she put it "from terminal to treatable. Terminal to treatable. Think on that. The most deadly brain cancer must be beaten. And it can be. Jessica believed this and I do too. This weekend is the third anniversary of her death and thanks to her family, especially her husband Ed Pilkington and her children Felix B. Pilkington Tess Pilkington and Emma Pilkington who have all swung into action on her behalf, and thanks to colleagues at OBB including Kelli Duprey Martha Wilkie Simon Matthews Jake Arnold-Forster Andy Coulson and Fiona Thorne. And, I hope you. Because if you can help me complete the final third of my fundraiser on the third anniversary that would be, well wonderful. And if you can repost this to say you have done, well, even better. Thank you not from my brain but my heart. ❤️ #ourbrainbank #gliobastoma #jessicamorris
