Covariant is giving robots human-like capabilities Covariant is an OpenAI spinoff started in 2017. At the time, OpenAI was about to abandon real-world robotics because of the lack of proper datasets So Covariant needed to start gathering real-world foundational datasets to train ad-hoc models They seem to have achieved that part of the goal and now it is teaching robots how to work through the anomalies of the real world As of now, the robots can interact with people via an interface, both with textual and image data. A lot has to be done, but these robots are showing a lot of skills in turning human commands into actual physical actions, such as moving/lifting items, also in the presence of noisy overlapping among the objects. Remember when I shared about diving into robotics and AI ? Well, the journey has gotten even more exciting! 🚀 I've just published a new medium.com article exploring how AI Agents and Large Language Models (LLMs) can revolutionize home service robots. I got a TurtleBot3 to understand and execute voice commands using a Plan-and-Execute AI Agent framework! 🤖 Some highlights from my experiment: Built a voice-controlled navigation system using OpenAI's Whisper for transcription Implemented an AI Agent that plans and executes navigation commands using LLMs Created a modular architecture combining Telegram bot interface, ROS2, and Nav2 stack Added safety guardrails through intelligent prompt engineering It was interesting to watch the robot actually reason about commands like "Hey CoffeeBot, please go to the kitchen" and break them down into executable steps. It's like giving the robot a tiny but capable brain!
