🌍 **Breaking Down Medical Myths to Build a Better Future for Health Care**  I recently watched Joel Bervell's thought-provoking TED video, *“A Medical Mythbuster's Mission to Improve Health Care.”* His insights have profoundly reshaped how I think about equity in medicine.  Joel shares how common myths and biases in health care—many stemming from outdated studies or assumptions—can disproportionately affect underserved communities. From inaccurate beliefs about pain tolerance in different ethnic groups to the unequal representation in medical research, these issues perpetuate disparities that cost lives.  As a medical mythbuster, Joel is on a mission to challenge these misconceptions. In their new Forefront article, John Jiang, Max Jiang, and Ge Bai from Michigan State University and The Johns Hopkins University discuss how effective enforcement of the Hospital Price Transparency Rule can empower patients, foster competition, and help control health care costs, while weak enforcement risks undermining public trust and perpetuating pricing opacity. "While early compliance was limited, more recent data shows encouraging trends. A recent report from Turquoise Health showed that three years after the rule’s implementation, average commercial prices for common hospital services have dropped. Their research reveals that when general practitioners (GPs) face less risk of new competitors, patient satisfaction declines—particularly in areas with fewer nearby GPs. Reading through the previous JLA priority setting partnerships is an exercise I often give to researchers I work with as they build their PPI skills, as they're an excellent example of PPIE and also a fascinating insight into the range of priorities that can be suggested when patients, researchers and clinicians work together.
