CLAISEBROOK COVE UPGRADE 🦆🌳   A Concept Plan has been developed to improve the public realm around Claisebrook Cove, addressing the function, amenity, and access for residents, businesses, and visitors. The project focuses on retaining and enhancing the existing character of the Cove while addressing several key issues.   The Concept Plan follows the consultation undertaken in 2023 regarding the Jetty Structures and an initial Ideas Plan. A summary of feedback from this consultation and how it has been addressed in the Concept Plan is outlined in the FAQs.   The survey takes about 2 minutes to complete and is open for comment from 14 August to 2 September 2024. https://lnkd.in/dagKfBSc Isn't it great when a project keeps on giving. Thirty years ago last month we held the North Arncliffe Charrette, the first in NSW. Bob Meyer and Peter R (for Robinson) were the lead consultants and the charrette team included Paul Murrain, Wendy Morris, Chris Stapleton, David White and others that I never see on LinkedIN (but let me know if you're out there). As the Director of Planning for Rockdale CC, my objectives were to: 1. Extend the planned airport rail line to the East Hills Line where it crossed the Main Southern Line, giving a very powerful (in urbanist terms) focus to the redevelopment of North Arncliffe (now named Wolli Creek); 2. Divert the freeway from as much of the Wolli Creek valley as could possibly be achieved (thankyou The Hon. Carl Scully); 3. Protect Tempe House, its chapel and gardens; and 4. Demonstrate the value of rezoning North Arncliffe for a high density transit oriented development (#TOD). We achieved all of that and, when the rezoning was assured, the project passed first to Landco (David Chandler OAM) who secured the masterplan and then to a Landcom-Australand JV that I helped to set up thanks to the support of Sean O'Toole (I was at Landcom by then). When it was clear that it would be profitable Australand bought out Landcom and then Australand morphed into Frasers who delivered the project (well done Rod Fehring, Nigel Edgar and team). There is now just one building left to complete. Now Wolli Creek Park has been increased in area by about 10% to 45 Ha (thanks Minister Penny Sharpe) and it directly links with the Cook River open space and park network at its eastern end (see the link for a plan showing the acquired lands). All we need now is that long-promised footbridge to connect Discovery Point to Waterworth Park (please note Rod Fehring and Minister Sharpe).

We are very pleased to have submitted a comprehensive application to the Federal Government’s Regional Precincts & Partnerships Program for the Coffin Bay Business Precinct Regeneration project.   The team have spent the last 18 months carrying out preliminary investigations, stakeholder engagement and industry and community consultation to prepare an impactful proposal that aims to address key challenges and constraints in Coffin Bay associated with land availability, critical town infrastructure and traffic (vehicle + vessel) movements. The project will enable the growth of the iconic Coffin Bay oyster industry and provide community, visitor and environmental benefits while simultaneously achieving one third of all actions identified in the Coffin Bay Master Plan. 𝐂𝐨𝐟𝐟𝐢𝐧 𝐁𝐚𝐲 𝐁𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐭 𝐑𝐞𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐣𝐞𝐜𝐭 - 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐲 𝐭𝐨 𝐠𝐨 ProcurePM Project Management are very pleased to have supported Lower Eyre Council during project feasibility, delivery planning and procurement for the Coffin Bay Business Precinct Regeneration Project in readiness for their grant submission, and would like to wish Council every success in securing support from the Australian Government for this regionally significant project. The Coffin Bay Business Precinct project is an exciting initiative that will enable the sustainable growth of Coffin Bay’s aquaculture industry whilst also improving community safety and delivering on new key elements as part of the Project, including road and marine upgrades, and waste management infrastructure. Key elements of this multifaceted Project include the following: - Upgrading the existing boat ramp facility, - Expansion of the existing business precinct to enable growth, - Upgrades to the road transport infrastructure, - Repurposing the current waste transfer station land, - Establishment of a new waste transfer station at a new location, - Upgrade/renewal of the community wastewater management system, - Amenity upgrades to the business precinct, - Development of a Precinct Sustainability Strategy, and - Investigate opportunities for a research/education hub. Planning and detailed design will be undertaken in a partnership environment involving key partners, local community, stakeholders, First Nations and industry to support the development of a place with purpose that supports regional growth and prosperity, and promotes Coffin Bay’s reputable brand. ProcurePM worked closely with Councils’ team to scope the Project, and design and execute an innovative procurement approach to identify a delivery partner that will allow completion of both planning and detailed design phases for the project, and with a view to being ‘construction ready’ in early 2026. A successful grant application will mean the planning and detailed design for the project can kick-off immediately, having already undertaken a comprehensive tender process to select a suitably skilled and experienced design team (WSP in Australia). As reported in the Times today, Kier Starmer's discussion on Green Belt release is a promising development in tackling the UK's growing Housing Crisis. The urgency for a comprehensive strategy to increase housing supply cannot be overstated. Incorporating brownfield and greenfield sites, building new settlements, and releasing Green Belt land are all essential components of addressing this crisis. I hope this discussion goes someway to dispelling the public misconception that all Green Belt land is environmentally valuable and must be preserved at all costs. Many areas classified as Green Belt are actually used for industrial purposes, golf courses, or agricultural activities - known as "grey belt." The protection of Green Belt land has hindered the development of sustainable housing near job opportunities and amenities for years, pushing development into less sustainable areas and forcing commuters into their cars. Great to attend the ‘Ipswich: A New Era of Planning’ UDIA event this morning at Brothers Leagues Club, Raceview and hear expert panelists from Government and the private sector discuss the new planning scheme and key priorities for the region. Having lived in outer western Brisbane I’ve always had a keen interest in the area’s future development and revitalisation of the Central Business District. Some key takeaways which I took from this morning’s conversation: - We are seeing some important updates to the biodiversity and bushfire overlay mapping in the Ipswich Planning Scheme 2024 which will start to be given weight; - Critical infrastructure funding gaps remain including the Ipswich to Springfield (I2S) rail line and the Ipswich Central second river crossing; - The LGA statistics show a notable difference between approved lots/dwellings and completions particularly as the cost of housing and roads has risen in the last 5 year period With the benefit of this information it’s now a pivotal time to close this gap in construction and foster an environment where industry can thrive in Ipswich again!
