One step closer to finalizing the NCFP!
I'm back from a two-day workshop at the JIBC campus in New Westminster where we continued development of the NCFP Education and Practice Guidance. The workshop was full of encouraging conversations, sharing of ideas, and a desire to push paramedic education beyond current practice. We look forward to sharing the draft guidance document with educators across Canada in coming weeks. Grateful to Becky Donelon and her team for hosting us, and this amazing group of educators from across Canada! An important message below from Dr Michael Myers OAM.
REA Update Thank you to the tens of thousands who have responded to our recent announcement. We are genuinely overwhelmed by the outpouring of support, and I will do my best to address each response as soon as possible. While many people offered assistance, I want to emphasise that our board—a group of respected businesspeople and friends—made this decision. They have witnessed Toni and me working tirelessly, seven days a week, for the past 26 years without a break. Their decision is rooted in their desire to bring peace and harmony to our lives, having seen the personal toll battling bureaucratic inertia has taken, particularly over the past two years. They have indicated that moving forward, every step we take will require their approval, which they have stated will be guided by the impact on us and our team. I kindly ask for your understanding, patience, and space as we manage our current workload, which has quadrupled since the announcement—something we did not anticipate or believe humanly possible. The board has given us the go-ahead to work with the SA industry to explore the viability of running the SA State final for F1 & SUBS at the Royal Adelaide Show, a project we've been developing for 12 months. With a small amount of industry support, we can make this happen. We will also continue to support the four teams we are sending to the F1 in Schools World Final in November. These teams are generally self-sufficient but may require additional industry sponsors and mentors. Beyond these, we will consider all activities on a case-by-case basis. Thank you again for your kind words and support. Please direct your energies toward the students and, where possible, help guide their potential and career futures, "No one said YOU couldn't."

I had a small involvement with Dr Michael Myers OAM and the Re-Engineering Australia Foundation Ltd. I think they did some amazing things and helped little Australia punch well above her weight. I should acknowledge many educators and students and industry sponsors were also critical to this outcome. I saw how Michael and REA had been able to influence school-aged children, and focussed STEM programs within schools to provide real world-like experiences that were/are of value to Defence, defence and space industry in Australia. I also saw how the initial F1 in Schools program not only provided STEM challenges, but also business challenges as students and schools had to look to industry for assistance and sponsorship to truly form world beating teams. In my time Australia, and in particular South Australia, did produce world-beating teams. Since those earlyish days most of Australia caught up to the South Australian successes. Now, I'm well aware that STEM is not the be all and end all when it comes to Defence and defence industry. But I could see how the F1 in Schools program, that also then developed the Subs in Schools, 4x4 In Schools and more recently Space in Schools programs, could morph into programs that also could develop those necessary non-STEM career paths too. I would like to think that enterprising entities and/or people, can see the value in these programs and open conversations with Michael and REA's Board members to ensure these programs not only continue, but grow into an important option to motivate students for careers in Defence, defence industry and space. Perhaps that might be an enterprising industry association (Defence Teaming Centre) or an enterprising Government agency (Defence SA) or a combination of entrepreneurial companies. These things do take time and money to coordinate well. But the investment is well worth it if it helps build a pipeline of people to fill the recognised gaps we have in order to achieve the lofty aims of Government in having a workforce to help Australia be successful on the world stage in many different future career paths (not all STEM). #Australia #future #workforce #STEM #NotJustSTEM #defenceIndustry #Space #Defence #Education #F1inSchools #SubsinSchools #SpaceinSchools #4x4inSchools #Government #MakeAustraliaGreatStill
