From my experience of doing so many of them over the years, here are my humble tips to ensure you make the most of your trade show experience: Plan Ahead and Set Clear Objectives Before the event, define your goals: Are you looking to generate leads, launch a new product, or increase brand awareness? Plan your booth design, marketing materials, and team roles around these objectives. Having a clear strategy will help you stay focused and measure your success. Engage and Stand Out Your booth is your stage—make it inviting and memorable. Use eye-catching visuals, interactive displays, and live demonstrations to draw in attendees. Train your team to be proactive and approachable, engaging with visitors through meaningful conversations rather than just sales pitches. Follow Up and Leverage Data The work doesn’t end when the trade show does. Collect and organize contact information, and promptly follow up with leads while the event is still fresh in their minds. Use the data you gathered to analyze what worked well and what could be improved, helping you refine your strategy for future events. Since starting my business, I’ve exhibited at over 50 trade shows and spent over $400,000. Here are 5 things I learned about making a great sales offer: 1) Create a show special. People need a reason to buy during the show otherwise they can walk away and “think it over” without any consequences. 2) Make the special an amazing deal. This creates excitement and gives people the permission they need to justify buying now. I like to pair discounts with free bonus products that are worth a lot to customers but don’t cost the business very much. 3) Make it time-sensitive to create urgency. My best special is only available during exhibiting hours. My second special isn’t nearly as good, but it’s available for two weeks after the show. I found this an effective strategy for prospects who attend without the decision maker. 4) Offer a money-back guarantee and emphasize it during your sales pitch. This eliminates risk and creates an exit strategy for customers should they not like your product. 5) Value is more important than price. This might sound crazy, but I increased my offer from $99 to $399 and was able to get more customers. The $399 offer had a better discount and included free bonus products. This increased the value making the offer more attractive. The results? Sales at trade shows increased by over 300% which also allowed our sales reps to earn a better commission. We achieved a faster ROI which allowed us to redeploy capital into more trade shows. We went from barely paying off the booth to making trade shows an important part of our growth.

Accountex London May 2024 As a regular attendee and sometime exhibitor at this huge event , I was struck this year at how little actual product was being shown across our sector. We love software. We love developing software. We love nothing more than being asked to demonstrate in depth, our solutions. It seems that there was a change with many of our erstwhile peers who focused on PowerPoint and corporate messaging this year rather than in-depth product demonstrations to visitors on the stand. It does seem unusual to me that exhibitors would go to all the effort of paying for and supporting a huge stand and choose not to show the product they are supposed to be promoting... It's like bringing your child to a dance recital and not letting him/her dance, such a shame..... Sometimes the old ways are the best – demonstrate product, show prospective clients what they want to see, don’t waffle, take the Pepsi challenge, believe in what you have to offer and show it off !
