As we face escalating climate challenges, we must remember that women especially those in underserved communities bear a disproportionate burden of the impacts. Yet, they are also powerful drivers of change, often leading grassroots solutions that prioritize sustainability and resilience. Involving women in climate action is not just a matter of equity but a pathway to more effective, inclusive, and sustainable outcomes. This COP29, I call on global leaders to center women's voices, recognize their unique experiences, and invest in initiatives that empower them as active participants in climate solutions. Let's ensure that climate action is an inclusive movement that uplifts all voices, creating a future where every community can thrive. 👉 Join me in advocating for gender-responsive climate solutions. Empower women. Drive change through storytelling. #COP29 #ClimateAction #WomenForClimate

The global launch of #WomenLeadingonClimate at #NYCClimateWeek with We Mean Business Coalition's María Mendiluce, and Jennifer Morgan Laurence Tubiana Ana Toni Ester Baiget Patricia Espinosa Cantellano Sophie Flak Marina Freitas Grossi Pamela Farrell Venzke Kyung-Ah Park Ilona Szabó de Carvalho Vanessa Butani Jessica Anderen Helen Watts Sandrine Dixson-Declève Kathleen McLaughlin and so many other fearless women was not only an extremely inspiring event (check out the show of force in the group shot below 💪!), it was personally motivating. Huge thanks to Ørsted for hosting and to Eurazeo, Potential Energy Coalition, and Columbia Climate School for supporting (btw - we are accepting more sponsors and funders to help scale country networks). The facts are clear: Women and girls are 2.5 times more likely to push for climate action. We see this every day - in boardrooms, in Cabinet rooms, in negotiating rooms, in classrooms, in communities, and on the streets. But some days it can feel very lonely. As one courageous leader put it at our event, "Many will say, why is that woman pushing so hard for climate action again?" But being with all these incredible women, women leading on climate in every country around the world, who are courageous and pragmatic and empathetic, reminded me that we're never alone. And that together, we can fight business as usual and entrenched interests, and we can win. And winning is the best thing possible. It means a cleaner, more prosperous, fairer future for everyone. This is not an exclusive movement and it builds on and supports the work of so many others (and we appreciate men supporting strong women!). Our first order of business is to support our Brazilian Women Leading on Climate network and push for more ambitious and actionable national climate plans including (#3xrenewables, doubling of energy efficiency and transitioning away from fossil fuels) into #COP30 next year. In anticipation of #InternationalWomensDay, we pay homage to women's leadership in People, Nature, and Climate. Today's champion, Christiana Figueres, played a pivotal role in shaping the historic Paris Agreement on climate change. Sarah Carter, Research Associate with World Resources Institute’s Global Forest Watch, explains her choice: “My climate champion is Christina Figueres, who led the negotiations at the 2015 UNFCCC COP, resulting in the historic Paris Agreement on climate change. The Agreement specifically noted the relevance of forests in its successful implementation through reducing emissions. I found her energy and commitment to pushing the Paris Agreement through truly inspiring. Despite opposition from numerous stakeholders, she found a way to get their support - and those negotiation skills and her determination are something I aspire to. As our climate continues to warm, and 2023 was recognized as being the warmest on record, I believe we need to do all we can to tackle climate change, meet the ambitious goals of the Paris Agreement, and to avoid loss of valuable forests around the world." ⭐ Who are your women champions related to sustainability, nature or climate? Tag them below! ⭐ Read more on WRI’s gender equity work in our research and programs: https://t.ly/Hv1sC Follow our campaign to learn more on women champions in climate! #People #Nature #Climate #Sustainability #InternationalWomensDay2024 #IWD2024 #InvestInWomen #ClimateAction #ClimateAction #ParisAgreement #WomenLeaders

We’re thrilled to announce that Project Dandelion has made it to the #PanelPicker stage for SXSW 2025. Visit the link below to vote for #projectdandelion now! https://lnkd.in/eiv3W4Fd A peek at the panel takeaways: 1️⃣ Globally, 7.1 billion people want governments to do more to fight this crisis. We need a climate movement stronger than the fossil fuel industry. 2️⃣ The climate crisis is the intersectional issue. We will not solve for any of the issues we care about until we solve the climate crisis first. 3️⃣ Women-led but not women-only: Project Dandelion is building a network for everyone to come together and demand a climate safe future for all. We share this with the millions of Dandelions worldwide who are working with us to build a climate-safe future. Thank you for your support — when women lead, action follows.

At #ClimateWeekNYC, our CEO, María Mendiluce, launched the Women Leading on Climate network alongside Catherine McKenna, Ana Toni, and Jennifer Morgan. When it comes to climate change, women are: ➡️ 2.5x more likely to ask their governments to be bolder ➡️ 60% more likely to use their voices for good ➡️ 2x as likely to engage civically. There is mounting research that indicates female-style leadership traits can support longer-term, multi-dimensional global problems such as the climate and nature crises. A study into the effect of women's leadership on carbon disclosure by the top 100 global energy leaders found that the number of women on the boards of the top global energy leaders is increasing in line with the level of carbon disclosure. Women Leading on Climate’s initial focus will be to push for greater country ambition and action in clear and investable country climate plans by early 2025, including the tripling of renewable energy and doubling of energy efficiency, alongside the phase-out of #fossilfuels. 👇 Swipe through the quotes below to hear from leading women from the worlds of government, civil society and business including Teresa Ribera, EU Commissioner-designate for a clean, just and competitive transition, Laurence Tubiana, CEO of the European Climate Foundation and Kyung-Ah Park, Head of ESG Investment Management and Managing Director, Sustainability, Temasek on why this network is so important. 🔗 Find out more about the network: https://lnkd.in/dSKBjMRt

🌍 𝗚𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗲𝗾𝘂𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝗯𝗲 𝗮 𝗰𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗽𝗿𝗶𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗳𝗼𝗿 #𝗖𝗢𝗣𝟮𝟵 From November 11 to 24, 2024, COP29 will gather leaders in Baku to advance climate policies and financing through vital public & private sector collaboration. But #GenderEquity in climate leadership remains a crucial issue. Initially, the 𝗮𝗹𝗹-𝗺𝗮𝗹𝗲 𝟮𝟴-𝗺𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗶𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗲 raised concerns, leading to the 𝗮𝗱𝗱𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝟭𝟮 𝘄𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻—a step forward, but more is needed. 💡Diverse perspectives lead to more resilient and #sustainable solutions. Women and girls, who make up 80% of those displaced by #climate disasters, bring essential insights to climate resilience and recovery, yet they remain underrepresented in decision-making at COP. With only 5 women having ever held the presidency in 29 years of COP, true progress requires elevating women’s voices in leadership to achieve lasting impact. 📖 For more on the importance of women leaders in #sustainability, read our blog post, “She has the power: Women Leaders in Sustainability and Energy Transition" 👉 https://bit.ly/4f93KJX

Launched at #ClimateWeekNYC, the Women Leading On Climate network - spearheaded by women in senior positions across business, government and civil society - aims to accelerate progress on climate action globally, write María Mendiluce, CEO of We Mean Business Coalition, and Catherine McKenna, founder and CEO of Climate and Nature Solutions. Women have been a major force behind our most significant milestones in combating climate change. Leaders like Christiana Figueres, former Executive Secretary of UNFCCC UN, Laurence Tubiana, head of the European Climate Foundation, and Mary Robinson, former president of Ireland, were pivotal in securing the #ParisAgreement. In the private sector, companies with more women in leadership roles are taking stronger climate actions and showing higher transparency in emissions disclosures. With global challenges escalating, the importance of female representation cannot be understated.
