Don't rush to trade in your internal combustion engine vehicle just yet. Last week I have seen first hand a demonstration plant in Punta Arenas, Chile at the HIF Haru Oni facility that is engineered to make eGasoline from water (hydrogen) and air (CO2). This first-in-the-world plant is powered by a wind turbine. They have already created tanks of eGasoline which is being used by Porsche. Absolutely incredible. A carbon neutral process. eFuels for the maritime and aviation industry are next for this project.

Sea Cheetah Corporation has partnered with hydrogen solutions expert H3 Dynamics to develop what the partners state to be the world’s first hydrogen-electric wing-in-ground effect (WIGE) vessel and an ecosystem of fueling points ... “Our hybrid #hydrogen-powered powertrain enables Sea Cheetah’s WIGE vessels to achieve range and payload capacities that were not possible before with #batteries, creating more applications and usability for such vessels in different parts of the world,” said Taras Wankewycz, CEO of H3 Dynamics. “By combining our two companies’ advanced technologies into one platform, Sea Cheetah vessels will now be able to carry three times more payload than competing air- and watercraft, 10 times faster than boats, and 10 times more fuel efficient than aircraft,” stated Serge Markoff, founder and CEO of Sea Cheetah. "MAN Truck & Bus has launched a limited series of hydrogen combustion-powered trucks for customers in a select number of countries. The 200 initial planned units will be available to customers in the Netherlands, Norway, Iceland and other selected non-European countries by 2025. The MAN hTGX will be suitable for transporting heavy goods, such as construction work or tank transport, with a 56kg tank that can be filled in 15 minutes with hydrogen compressed to 700 bar. A new limited series of hydrogen combustion-powered trucks has been created by MAN Truck & Bus SE. There are two hundred buses in total and they will be available, by 2025, to customers in Iceland, Norway, the Netherlands, plus a number of other selected non-European countries. The new truck is called the MAN hTGX and it has been designed to be suitable for the transportation of heavy goods. This could include construction work, tank transport or similar contents. 𝐔𝐒-𝐛𝐚𝐬𝐞𝐝 𝐒𝐞𝐚 𝐂𝐡𝐞𝐞𝐭𝐚𝐡 𝐂𝐨𝐫𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 has announced a 𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐠𝐢𝐜 𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩 with 𝐓𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐨𝐮𝐬𝐞-𝐛𝐚𝐬𝐞𝐝 𝐡𝐲𝐝𝐫𝐨𝐠𝐞𝐧 𝐬𝐨𝐥𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐞𝐱𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐭 𝐇𝟑 𝐃𝐲𝐧𝐚𝐦𝐢𝐜𝐬 to develop the 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐝’𝐬 𝐟𝐢𝐫𝐬𝐭 𝐡𝐲𝐝𝐫𝐨𝐠𝐞𝐧-𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐜 𝐰𝐢𝐧𝐠-𝐢𝐧-𝐠𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝 𝐞𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐜𝐭 (𝐖𝐈𝐆𝐄) vessel and an ecosystem of fueling points. Sea 𝐂𝐡𝐞𝐞𝐭𝐚𝐡’s 𝐖𝐈𝐆𝐄 𝐯𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐥𝐬 will be capable of traveling at speeds exceeding 135 knots (250 kph / 155 mph), flying just a few meters above the water to connect coastal and island regions. While resembling an aircraft, these vessels will be classified and operated as marine vessels, following 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐞 𝐎𝐫𝐠𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐳𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 (𝐈𝐌𝐎) guidelines for 𝐖𝐈𝐆𝐄 classification. This marine designation helps avoid the high costs associated with aircraft regulation and insurance. 𝐒𝐞𝐚 𝐂𝐡𝐞𝐞𝐭𝐚𝐡 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐇𝟑 𝐃𝐲𝐧𝐚𝐦𝐢𝐜𝐬 will also introduce decentralized green hydrogen fueling systems, called H2Hub modules, for quick vessel turnaround and efficient refueling. According to H3 Dynamics 𝐂𝐄𝐎 𝐓𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐬 𝐖𝐚𝐧𝐤𝐞𝐰𝐲𝐜𝐳, the hybrid hydrogen-electric powertrain will enable longer range and greater payload capacities than battery-powered alternatives. Jekta and ZeroAvia partner for Hydrogen Seaplane. Here's more 👇 Swiss aircraft developer JEKTA has partnered with ZeroAvia to create a hydrogen-powered seaplane. The collaboration aims to integrate ZeroAvia's fuel cell engine into JEKTA's PHA-ZE 100 amphibious flying boat design. By incorporating hydrogen power, JEKTA expects to achieve a range of up to 500-600 km while increasing payload capacity compared to battery-electric systems. This makes hydrogen an attractive option for operators serving longer regional routes. JEKTA CEO George Alafinov emphasized the importance of offering clients a choice between electric and hydrogen power. The partnership will develop and certify an integrated power generation system, including inverters, a hydrogen tank, and a fuel system. While battery-electric power suits shorter ranges and certain locations, hydrogen provides a compelling alternative for extended range and payload. ZeroAvia CEO Val Miftakhov expressed interest in working with JEKTA to shape the future of amphibious aviation. Cryogenic hydrogen fuel tanks are of course new to Climate Impulse – what is the performance improvement compared to current “state of the art” hydrogen containment systems? Blackburn: The current state of the art solutions focus on metallic constructions – which can deliver fine performance, indeed. However, the challenge of carrying enough fuel for an entire, non-stop circumnavigation motivates the team to seek the lightest possible solutions for containing the fuel needed – which will bring benefits to the entire aircraft ‘system’. Lighter tanks can result in lighter structures that will then require smaller, lighter engines – and so the circle continues virtuously. FINN: Construction of #ClimateImpulse has now begun – so are the various materials and construction techniques already validated, or is R&D ongoing? Blackburn: The materials selected for the project do, indeed, have proven heritage in demanding applications over recent years – backed up by Syensqo’s databases of material characterisation and processing expertise. The project does, however, give the opportunity to explore some new formats and variations on trusted technologies that will give our R&D teams a chance to validate and prove our contemporary thinking, too – there’s plenty of excitement to come.
