🍓 🍄 The topic of preserving regional food heritage was addressed by multiple projects in the Lake Saimaa region in the past years. They focus on building awareness, gastronomy culture, sustainablity of value chain.
In this article we share some of them that were presented during the 4th Interregional meeting of #SMEOrigin project partners in Savonlinna, Finland, in September 2024.

Terrific to have our CEO, Olivia Barrie representing the Mornington Peninsula at the Wine Communicators of Australia Inc 2024 Wine Growth Summit in Adelaide on Wednesday, alongside regional leaders - Barossa Australia's Ben Patten and McLaren Vale Grape, Wine & Tourism Association's CEO, Erin Leggat with wine tourism legend, Robin Shaw leading the topic.
A few Destination Marketing take aways:
- Know your customer, don't try to please everyone and remain true to the region's brand and value proposition.
- Visitors choose just 2-3 wineries to visit in a day (used to be 5!), one being a lunch destination. You want to be on their list. Develop relevant, engaging and memorable experiences linked to a well presented brand.
- Collaborate with like minded businesses for a powerful, saleable offer which encourages over night stays.
- Regional tourism websites are a visitor's first port of call, make sure your presence and offer are current, prominent and high quality.

Whenever you are transporting perishable goods inside any kind of packaging and loaded in a container, bear in mind two things:
- Optimization of Reefer containers: Do you need a reefer container with two different temperatures inside? Does your production not reach the quantity for a full reefer, but, maybe, you could make it with two different products that would need two different temperatures? https://lnkd.in/dCrYCWr9
- Proper packaging: Are you falling into the usual mistake of over spending in packaging? Do you know that there exist alternatives to the reefer containers at much cheaper prices that also optimize your logistics timings and reduce your carbon footprint?
Consider exploring with us alternative solutions. Contact me or Amadeo Vivancos and book an online meeting. You won't regret it.
We look forward to hearing from you!

🇪🇺 The European wine industry is facing significant challenges, from declining consumption to the impacts of climate change.
📢 “Over the past two decades, the EU wine sector has been a success story. Framed by a comprehensive regulatory system, the EU has been leading in the world, with exports that tripled in value over that period,” - Commission’s agriculture and rural-development department
📉 The recent data highlights the urgency: global wine consumption dropped by 2.6% last year, hitting the lowest levels since 1996.
💡 Despite this, the European Commission is taking proactive steps by calling for member states to join the High-Level Group on Wine Policy, the forum that aims to tackle these macro challenges and explore sustainable solutions.
🌱 In this context, CBE is excited to contribute to this mission through 🍷 WINE Project, by launching an innovative online course designed to train wine professionals aligned with the European Green Deal objectives, focusing on emerging environmental threats and the need to enhance cooperation and skills transfer.
WINE aims to:
🍃 Raise Awareness and Knowledge: Educate participants on sustainable wine-making practices to ensure a greener future for the industry.
🤝 Harmonize Education and Training: Standardize skills and knowledge across Europe, making it easier for professionals to adapt to changing market and environmental conditions.
🌐 Promote Wine Tourism: Highlight sustainable wine tourism practices, supporting local economies and cultural heritage.
🇪🇺 Foster European Networking: Create strong connections between different organizations across Europe, promoting collaboration and innovation.

Have your Say on the Victorian Wine strategy particularly as it relates to First Peoples participation in the sector from business and entrepreneurial opportunities, to employment, to caring for Country and tourism related activities. How can this strategy foster greater participation and enable aspirations? How can this strategy develop a sector where First Peoples have meaningful and diverse opportunities to participate?

Revitalising Pokolbin: The Cedar Mill Hunter Valley
Located on the corner of McDonalds and Broke roads in Pokolbin within the tourist node, the ambitious development seeks to harness the region's viticultural heritage, transforming a 41-hectare site into a vibrant hub for local and international visitors.
What is proposed is a multi-faceted development encompassing a museum, convention centre and tourism clusters.
Each cluster is designed to offer unique experiences, from exploring the rich history of winemaking in the museum cluster to hosting large-scale events and conference in the convention cluster.
The tourism cluster aims to support the principal uses by offering a range of activities, including wine tasting, dining and retail experiences.
Historically, the site has been vacant pasture for about 50 years, with recent investigations confirming that the soil profile is not considered to be prime viticultural land and offers extremely limited capacity for wine grape production.

The global surge in #wine tourism has led to a fascinating paradox: activities considered wine tourism in one country might be forbidden in another!?
This makes comparing wine tourism across borders and wine regions a complex challenge.
While social media overflows with posts about wine and tourism, I believe there's a pressing need for clarification.
From spa treatments overlooking vineyards to gourmet restaurants among the vines, the boundaries are increasingly blurred. How do we define authentic wine tourism experiences in this evolving industry?
Explore these questions and more in a recent chapter I co-authored with colleagues Assoc. Prof. Katia Laura Sidali and Claudia Bazzani from University of Verona, in collaboration with the Great Wine Capitals. 'Towards a Clarification of the Definition of Wine Tourism', appears in the latest edition of 'Strategic Management in the Wine Tourism Industry', edited by Javier Martínez FalcóBARTOLOME MARCO LAJARAEduardo Sánchez García at Palgrave Macmillan.
