Spent an hour organizing the 'catchall' room & bagging up clothes...also made a little headway in sorting through some of mom's clothes hanging in that closet...found a t-shirt that had gone missing a decade ago.... If we can get all the clothes, shoes, & stuff animals to the women's shelter for donation this week--the room will look significantly better. Then would just need to take a few boxes of books to the library for donation...then move several boxes out to the garage...and then it would almost be back to normal (as normal as it gets for this house). Though there will be some stuff that just heads to the trash can: tatter quilts that I currently don't have the time or room for in order to repair...and even possibly the two tattered afghans (as I've got a lot of other craft projects on the agenda as well)...I'm trying to repurpose things...but at the same time be practical (if I'm not repurposing within a set time frame....the item goes in the trash, recycling, or is possibly sold). With the colder months approaching, there is a particular need for winter boots, coats, fleece jackets, gloves, hats, and scarves. Your donation is most likely to go to a client if it is something you would proudly give to a friend or relative. Good donations are new or gently used, in complete working condition (with no missing buttons, broken zippers, and without tears, stains, or visible wear or damage). Over the past two weeks, Asheville has been flooded with love. From local, state, and federal agencies (yes, they are ALL here, but that’s a different post). Joe, Hank, Alice and I have been doing shifts at a grassroots collection and distribution site. The generosity is staggering. Thank you, thank you, thank you! But the needs are now evolving. Our site alone could no longer accept water, clothing, OTC meds, and much more. They have SO much. And that’s only one site. Other mountain areas (Boone, Marshall, Spruce Pine, and countless others) may need supplies, but Asheville now has what it needs to meet folks basic needs. However, restaurants can’t open bc there’s no water, and many want to pay their staff regardless. Farmers can’t sell to restaurants, so they’re donating their produce for distribution by food banks.
