Technology can help save lives when the clock is counting down: mountain rescue with Smith Myers Artemis airborne mobile phone detection system. #savinglives
How crucial is technology in life-threatening situations? In a recent rescue, the Smith Myers Communications Ltd ARTEMIS system, embedded in the Royal Norwegian Air Force's (Luftforsvaret) SAR Queen helicopter, tracked down Morten Traavik and his son, stranded for 17 hours in the Vestlandsfjellet mountains. This advanced mobile phone detection system pinpointed their location despite dense fog and lack of coverage, enabling the rescue team to locate them quickly. Base Commander Erland Karlsen of the 330 Squadron praised ARTEMIS’s ability to detect phones without network coverage, calling it a “game-changer in rescue operations.” Smith Myers’ managing director, Andrew Munro, reiterated the life-saving impact of ARTEMIS, which has already been integrated into numerous SAR and Coast Guard programs globally. Could this technology redefine emergency rescue standards?
