I recently came across this article in Forbes about the future of mental health care, and it really got me thinking about where we’re headed. In the next five years, mental health care is predicted to become more personalized, more tech-driven, and more accessible—which is promising. But as exciting as these advancements are, I think it’s important to remember that at the heart of mental health care, we’re still dealing with human connection. While technology can help bridge gaps in access, it’s the human touch—empathy, active listening, real support—that makes the biggest impact. So as we move forward, we need to find the balance between innovation and genuine care. Mental health isn’t something that fits into an app or a one-size-fits-all solution. It’s complex, personal, and ongoing. The future of care is exciting, but let’s not forget that it all comes down to people.

On Friday, I had the privilege of attending the WA Men's Wellbeing Conference, an event filled with powerful stories and crucial discussions about men's mental health. Held at the stunning Rendezvous Hotel in Scarborough, this conference brought together experts, community leaders, and passionate individuals dedicated to improving men's wellbeing. Highlights included: - Mechelle Turvey, who emphasised the importance of yarning and sharing personal stories to foster connection and healing. - A panel of Indigenous Elders, including Hon. Ken Wyatt AM, who reminded us that young men need to know they are loved and need more opportunities to connect and yarn with others. - Chris Harris, who spoke about the importance of understanding the human brain and how small shifts in thinking can make a significant difference, especially in the FIFO community. I also had the opportunity to present in one of the breakout rooms, sharing insights on iyarn's new AI feature and how it helps bridge the digital and human disconnect. We explored how AI can provide scalable support, reduce the burden on mental health professionals, and enhance user engagement through personalised tools. Our breakout session yielded insightful data from the discussions: - Family Support: Average score of 6.4, highlighting the need for more family involvement and support. - Friendship and Connection: Scores of 6.4 and 6.8 respectively, indicating the importance of fostering strong, supportive friendships. - Mental Health: Average score of 6, showing a balanced state but underscoring the need for continued focus on mental health resources. A special thanks to Mens Talk AU & Richmond Wellbeing for organising this impactful event and to all the speakers for their valuable contributions. Reflections on Women’s Mental Health and Digital Technology On November 14th, I had the privilege of speaking at the Hera Hub DC event on women’s #mentalhealth in the digital age alongside Christina Borba and Lindsay Lieberman, Esq. and other Hera Hub members. It was both an inspiring and alarming conversation. We explored how digital technology is transforming our mental well-being—for better and for worse. As women increasingly engage with digital tools, here are three ways to enhance mental health and three ways to safeguard against digital harm: 3 Ways Digital Technology Can Improve Women’s Mental Health: 1️⃣ Access Mental Health Support Anywhere: Meditation apps or teletherapy platforms offer women accessible resources to manage stress and anxiety. 63% of women using mental health apps report improvements in well-being. 2️⃣ Foster Connections Through Online Communities: Peer-support groups and anonymous forums reduce feelings of isolation. Over 55% of women find online support networks effective for managing mental health concerns. 3️⃣ Monitor and Manage Stress: Wearables and tracking apps help identify patterns in mood and stress, empowering proactive care. 70% of women using mood-tracking apps feel more in control of their mental health. 3 Ways to Protect Yourself From Digital Harm: 1️⃣ Limit Social Media to Reduce Anxiety: Excessive screen time can amplify social comparisons and body dissatisfaction. Women who use social media for more than 2 hours daily are 2.3x more likely to experience depression. 2️⃣ Create Boundaries for Better Sleep: Avoid screens before bed to combat poor sleep quality, a leading contributor to anxiety and mood disturbances. 3️⃣ Stay Safe Online: Cyberbullying, stalking, and privacy breaches disproportionately affect women. Empower yourself with privacy settings and report abuse on digital platforms. *Statistics represent data from the United States (but the general trends are broadly informative) By leveraging the benefits and mitigating its risks, women can take charge of their mental health while staying safe online.
