🌍💧 In Ethiopia, the aftermath of the 2021 armed conflict in the Amhara region has shown us just how high the cost of rebuilding essential systems and services – like water – can be. The experience in Ethiopia and so many other regions and countries in conflict – today and in the past – demonstrates the importance of conflict prevention, resolution, and collaboration. In Kebeles (wards) 033 and 034 in the Amhara region, a collaboration between the government of Ethiopia and SNV, supported by USAID, revived previously devastated water infrastructure and introduced system enhancements. Key to this transformation has been the training of Water Users Associations and local government bodies, empowering them to manage the revived systems effectively and sustainably. As communities rebuild, we are reminded that cross-border and disciplinary cooperation and support can lead to resilience and recovery. 🔗 Read: https://lnkd.in/daRFiKX5 Together, let's continue to advocate for peace and collaboration, ensuring every community has access to safe drinking water. #WaterForPeace #CommunityResilience #InternationalSupport

Check out the latest updates from the USAID/Moldova Building Resilient Communities in Stefan Voda Rayon Activity. Thanks to Anton, Yuliia, and Ion, for their leadership and work on this program!
The Ștefan Vodă district of southeast #Moldova, near the Ukraine border, is at high risk of conflict, food and economic insecurity, extreme weather and other disasters. Helvetas and our partners are working with local communities to mitigate the social, economic and environmental risks that already exist and are exacerbated by the war in #Ukraine. At workshops in four villages in the Stefan Voda district, local authorities, private sector representatives, Ukrainian refugees and leaders of educational institutions came together to prepare community-level emergency responses – as shown in the 📽 below. This included: 🚨 Disaster simulation exercises 🚨 Establishment of community management committees 🚨 Guidance on reacting effectively and efficiently The next step: Creating preparedness plans for each community and developing an early warning system. This project is made possible by the generous support of the American people through USAID. Ion Grădinari Anton Muntean Yuliia Y. A humanitarian catastrophe at a scale not seen in decades is unfolding in war-torn Sudan. Tens of thousands have been killed. Famine threatens many more. CORE joined a Commitment to Action to support mutual aid in Sudan at the Clinton Global Initiative 2024 Annual Meeting to find workable solutions to help address this crisis and avert catastrophe. CORE is among a group of funders channeling at least $2M by the end of 2024 and an additional $4.5M or more through 2026 to support locally led frontline groups and civil society leaders already working in Sudan to address critical needs. https://lnkd.in/gegcY2nF #CGI2024 #sudan #coreresponse

Our teams have been in Syria since 2008, helping families recover from a 13-year-long conflict that has been largely forgotten. Over 15 million people still need our help. And we're still working to reach them. “Humanitarian crises are multiplying. International attention tends to focus on the most recent emergencies, but we must not forget Syria,” says Darius Zietek, Action Against Hunger’s Country Director for Syria. A new report released today by the International Rescue Committee shares the stories of individuals and families who have been forced to flee their homes - seeking refuge in neighbouring states in Sudan or in neighbouring countries - and whose experiences reflect the myriad of challenges faced by millions of Sudanese today. One year after fighting broke out between rival factions of Sudan’s military, the conflict in Sudan has had catastrophic impacts on almost every aspect of day-to-day life in the country. The ongoing fighting has resulted in significant loss of life, with over 14,700 people killed and almost 30,000 injured. More than 8.2 million people have fled their homes since the conflict started on April 15, 2023, making the conflict in Sudan the world’s largest displacement crisis. Today, close to 25 million people (around half of the population) are in immediate need of assistance, including 18 million people facing acute food insecurity.
