After three years of hard work, the SOCIO-BEE project is coming to an end. Join us Wednesday, 18 September, 11am-12:45pm CEST for this important wrap-up. We will share the technological developments carried out over the course of the project, as well as the countless engagement strategies deployed to facilitate these communities (our ‘hives’), to favour an effective change in their way of understanding and dealing with #airpollution. We will also share, as a final reflection, the lessons learned during these 36 months and recommendations for working with #citizenscience methodologies to foster the assembly of these communities. If you work or have worked on similar projects, are interested in #airquality monitoring or plan to work with communities using citizen science methodologies to bring about #behaviouralchange, join us and participate in this event. https://lnkd.in/diiA9BrX

By establishing #GREENGAGE Observatories, we are continuously #empowering local communities to engage actively with #environmentalchallenges. 💚🌿 With the deployment of portable environmental sensors provided by our GREENGAGE partner HOPU, we are making it possible for volunteering citizens to participate in the monitoring and solution-finding processes for air quality issues in our Italian pilot areas. 🌫️🌍 This initiative not only helps in gathering crucial data but also ensures that the voices and concerns of the local communities are at the forefront of environmental #policymaking. We believe that through such active participation and collaboration, we can foster more #sustainable and #resilient communities. #ClimateAction #CitizenScience #EnvironmentalMonitoring #Sustainability #GreenInitiatives #HorizonEurope #AirQuality #HealthyLiving
22 Atmotube PRO monitors are used by I Borghi più belli d'Italia in the GREENGAGE Project, funded by Horizon Europe. Its goal is to engage citizens in shaping climate policies through co-creating green initiatives in Italy, specifically in the Turano Valley and Gerace Municipality. Citizen Observatories focus on mobility, air quality, and healthy living, facilitating active involvement in addressing environmental issues. Through Citizen Observatories citizens participate in monitoring solutions for environmental challenges. Community air monitoring is a vital practice aimed at safeguarding public health and environmental quality by monitoring air pollutants in residential, industrial, and urban areas. Sensible EDP's recent blog discusses benefits and best practices for helping communities respond to environmental guidelines and community health standards. By proactively accessing real-time data from a variety of sensors, the Sensible Environmental Data Platform (EDP) empowers communities in their quest for cleaner, healthier environments and helps ensure their monitoring is accurate, efficient, and effective. We're proud to share that we, in partnership with Waterford City & County Council's Climate Action Team, have launched the ScoilAer project—a groundbreaking initiative leveraging our STRIAD:AIR technology. Supported by €20,000 in funding through the European Union’s Horizon Europe programme and its IMPETUS initiative, this project equips over 1,000 students from De La Salle College and Waterpark College with the tools and knowledge to map safer, healthier walking routes to school while reducing pollution exposure. Dr. Rachel Finn, Head of Irish Operations, highlighted the students’ excitement: "Combining environmental readings with advanced analytics really opened their eyes to how AI can have positive impacts on climate action and community wellbeing." With nearly 5,000 clean-up events recorded across the Great Southern Reef since the beginning of 2021, the community's response to keeping our coast and oceans clean has been formidable. Thanks to Tangaroa Blue Foundation and partners, over 216 tonnes of debris have been removed by nearly 23,000 participants, clearing over 3.4 million items from the marine environment. These figures are a testament to the power of collective action and the pivotal role of citizen science in shaping a sustainable future for our oceans. Local clean-up groups, educational programs, and citizen science initiatives are instrumental in not only removing debris but also in preventing further pollution. By participating in local clean-ups and advocating for sustainable practices, every individual can contribute to the health and longevity of the Great Southern Reef. One easy and effective way to contribute is by utilising the Australian Marine Debris Initiative (AMDI) Data Collection App. The app allows you to record and submit data from clean-up activities. Whether it’s a solo effort along a local beach or a community event, every piece of data collected is valuable. By logging the types and quantities of debris collected, you’re contributing vital information that bolsters the growing body of evidence needed to guide government policy, community action, and industry best practices. #GreatSouthernReef #AMDI
