𝗪𝗲𝗹𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗦𝗖𝗖𝗛! Mathias Gartner comes from the upper Mühlviertel/Upper Austria, more precisely from Bad Leonfelden, but has lived in Linz since 2012. Nice to have you with us, Mathias, tell us more about yourself. At the JKU Linz, I first completed a Bachelor's and a Master's degree in Technical Physics, then a doctorate in Natural Sciences with a focus on "Theoretical and Computational Quantum Physics". At SCCH, I am part of the research focus "Quantum Computing". We develop and evaluate strategies for future applications of quantum computers. My background as a quantum physicist allows me to bring new expertise and perspectives to the existing team. Before joining SCCH, I worked as a full stack developer at MByte Software Development GmbH, then as a research assistant at the Max Planck Institute of Microstructure Physics and subsequently as head of the "Art & Science" project "The Transparency of Randomness" at the JKU Linz. This interactive installation illustrated the relevance of random numbers in current research areas such as quantum mechanics or artificial intelligence and encouraged visitors to reflect on the significance of randomness. From the end of 2020 to March 2023, I was a university assistant at the Institute of Theoretical Physics at the JKU Linz, and from April to June 2023 I was a visiting researcher at the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC) in Spain. I wanted a job outside of pure university basic research, where my expertise in physics, especially quantum mechanics, is in demand. I found SCCH online and was immediately enthusiastic. The opportunity to join a young quantum computing team and contribute my ideas and approaches is a great chance for me to continue working on exciting research questions. I love nature and travelling. I am fascinated by getting to know other cultures and their approach to nature and wildlife. I love cooking (and eating) and am inspired by the different dishes and preparation methods that I get to know on my travels. #scch #softwarescience #datascience #jku #artificialintelligence #AI #KünstlicheIntelligenz #deeplearning #datenmanagement #informatik #forschen #ffg #quantencomputing

Our new paper with Simon Goorney and Marilu Chiofalo titled "Educating to the “Culture” of Quantum Technologies: A Survey Study on Concepts for Public Awareness" is finally published in the European Journal of STEM Education! 🎉 DOI: https://lnkd.in/dUpypaGU We really want to thank deeply to the QTEdu CSA and the quantum education community for their inputs to the paper. Some TLDR bulletpoints about it: - We argue for a discussion on whether QT is primarily a domain of quantum physics or did it (especially fields like QC) grew out of it and on their way of becoming a subdiscipline of their own. - What are the constraints of outreach environments and which QT concepts are the most important ones to cover in these efforts? - We call for establishing Physics Outreach Research (POR) as a valid research programme. - Trigger warning: If you are a "spin" fan, you might not like the findings of our survey 😅 #quantumtechnologies #education #outreach #survey #publication #science

🆕 Freshly published paper on medical research with the help of quantum computers in Nature Physics. The article is the result of a collaboration between the Universität Wien, Boehringer Ingelheim, BASF, Google, QC Ware Corp. and the University of Toronto. 👩🔬 The researchers see great advantages for quantum computers, particularly in research into alternating effects. Despite enormous progress in both hardware and software, the exact quantum mechanical calculation of the interaction energy of two molecules on classical computers is still a major challenge. 🎇 We in the team of Artificial Intelligence Center Hamburg (ARIC) and Hamburg Quantum Innovation Capital (hqic), therefore, have our own department that deals with the topic of life science. We always think AI and quantum computers together in order to take into account and combine the advantages of both worlds in the best possible way. 🤝 We are very pleased to see that science and industry are moving ever closer together to advance research into quantum technologies. You can find the paper in the comment below 🔍

I’m excited to announce that I’ve started my bachelor’s thesis Fraunhofer IAO in Stuttgart! My topic is the efficient optimization of quantum neural networks, which allows me to combine both of my study subjects: physics and applied computer science. This unique intersection is what makes quantum computing so fascinating to me—it's a field where we explore whether we can improve our algorithmic approaches by fundamentally changing our computing principles, such as leveraging superposition and entanglement. I am looking forward to deepen my knowledge in the areas of gradient-free and gradient-based optimisers, the opportunities of quantum data, the trainability of quantum circuits, bayesian hyperparameter optimisation and much more. I’m really looking forward to collaborating with the talented team here and expanding my knowledge in this rapidly evolving domain. #QuantumComputing #NeuralNetworks #Optimization #Bayes #BachelorThesis #Research #Physics #ComputationalNeuroscience
