Organic growth, Seed funding, Blue sky thinking, Ecosystem, Green initiatives. Cool corporate terms we throw around, but there is so much inspiration and consideration to glean from nature and incorporate into product design and business. This past week I was inspired when walking the Oslo Opera House. It was designed to resemble an iceberg floating on the water, crafted and built with nature in mind. It provides visitors panoramic views of the City, the Oslo Fjord while walking it's marble and granite exterior. I love the fact that nature inspired this creative design and was integral in its development and construction. 1. How does nature inspire you? 2. How does it influence your product design and deployment? 3. How do you consider the impact your product has on the natural environment that was there long before you came along? #inspired by nature #the Oslo Opera House #sustainability

Lanzhou is a tourism hub on the ancient Silk Road and an important city in the “One Belt, One Road” Chinese Economic strategy. The local tourism authority commissioned a French company, ECA2, to design a Cultural Centre in Lanzhou, to showcase the Legend of Pan Gu, who in Chinese mythology created the universe. Impeccable acoustics were required for this top-notch theatre. The ECA2 technical team and the PEUTZ acoustic engineers worked closely with Megasorber Chief Engineer and inventor Dr. Harvey Law. His patented Megasorber Soundmesh® G8 sound-absorbing fabric was deemed ideal, having significant acoustic and technical advantages for this project. Not only does this fabric have excellent sound absorption capacity, but Megasorber Soundmesh G8 acoustic fabric is also water-repellent and suitable for use both indoors and outdoors. Soundmesh G8 can withstand extreme heat in dry and humid conditions and can withstand rain, hail and snow in cold climates. Megasorber Soundmesh® G8 is non-combustible, which is especially beneficial in meeting stringent fire safety requirements. Megasorber G8 fabric is an excellent substrate for image projections – imperative for high-quality images and sound requirements. A groundbreaking phenomenon known as Jet Fog was created by ECA2 by combining mist and smoke to create denser conditions for laser, light, and video effects. Additionally, in Lanzhou, ECA2 showcased their inaugural and remarkable utilization of laser diodes. Consequently, testing the acoustic fabric alongside this system became essential. Both white Soundmesh G8 and grey Soundmesh G8 went through stringent testing, and the grey Soundmesh G8 was selected. Megasorber Soundmesh® G8 acoustic fabric was attached to over 7,000 perforated curved aluminium ceiling tiles via a combination of heat and contact spray adhesive. With an audience of 1,450 people, the theatre hosted its first show in September 2019. 🌴 Garden Rhapsody 🌴 – Light Show: Singapore’s Gardens by the Bay | November 2023 | The clouds rumbled as flashes of lightning lit up the dark, gloomy skies. Rain trickled down while people's conversations travelled throughout the air as I lay flat on wooden platforms, looking up at numerous towering structures shaped like funnels with slender twigs spread out like crowns. People’s chatters then quietened when the orchestrated classical music majestically blared throughout, with the Supertrees sparkling masses of vivid lighting. As the experience played out, the colourful programmed light patterns matched the music’s soundtrack seasons, moods and tempos that seamlessly transitioned throughout the songs. What captured me in this attraction was how these assorted styles of musical pieces were interpreted into a ballet of digital light forms and formations, from twinkling to flashing, to encourage locals and tourists to connect with nature even during its after-hours. 🎶 By visiting this significant icon, I witnessed the way that art, sound and lighting can be harnessed through digital technology to elicit multi-sensory experiences. Doing so allowed me to develop ideas for the AI Exhibition project I am a part of this year. 💡 This attraction is free for all, with the music changing every night and full of different spectacular shows of choreographed lighting. It is an experience I recommend anyone to check out when you're in Singapore! 👀 ---------------------------------------------------- #GardensbytheBay #Lightshow #Supertrees

My first article on Italy Magazine is about street art festivals transforming Italy's rural area. "In recent years, a wave of urban art initiatives has helped transform some of Italy’s depopulated villages, rekindling the vibrancy of communities left behind due to brain drain, low birth rates and other big-picture cultural and infrastructural issues. Such festivals — often run by local enthusiasts or cosmopolitan artists with roots in the host villages — are helping to redefine Italy’s sleepy hamlets not as relics of bygone eras, but as living, breathing cultural centers." https://lnkd.in/dcsJuv-s

One of the commitments that I made when I returned from Hawaii was to take a break at least once per quarter. So last week, the Frenchman and I wagged school and went to Sydney for five days to play tourist. One of the things we treated ourselves to was seeing La Traviata at the Sydney Opera House. The first time I saw the Sydney Opera House was as a 12 or 13 year old on a family holiday to Sydney. Not long after it's completion. I had no idea of the controversy that surrounded this iconic building. Last week was the first time I saw the inside of the Opera House. Whilst recently refurbished, I was struck by the graceful design of the building. The vision that Utzen had created. As you approach the Opera House you see the full expanse of the sweeping stairs leading to the entrance. The "sails" dominate the landscape, as she sits against the backdrop of the harbour. (The Opera House is definitely a "she".) It's a moment when man and nature come together and complement each other perfectly. Standing under the soaring sails, you gain an appreciation of the true grandeur of this building. As we took the flight of stairs to our seats, I was struck by one small architectural detail. The concrete staircase extended beyond the profile of the window. As I looked through the window the shape of the staircase contrasted with the blue of the harbour. Strangely enough, it reminded me of a perfectly crafted brand story. Brand stories are created with the same passion that Utzon put into his drawings of the Opera House. The passion to create something that stands out amongst its peers. The attention to detail that sets a brand apart from its competitors. The timeless craftsmanship that stands the test of time. This is what a compelling brand story should be. If you'd like to craft yours, book in for a chat to learn more. #branding #brandstories #brandivine

Today, Calgary’s BMO Centre at The Calgary Stampede Park is ready to welcome the world, officially becoming Western Canada’s largest convention centre with the grand opening of its 565,000 sq. ft. expansion. After four years of construction, the over 1M sq. ft. facility opens its doors creating an architectural landmark, and making gatherings even greater with the ability to host larger conventions. The first major event, the Global Energy Show Canada, is already loading into the expansion’s exhibition halls in preparation for their event on June 11th, and there are 500 more conventions and events booked to date. This also means more business for restaurants, shops, rideshares and other attractions. The economic impact to Calgary is estimated to be upwards of $100M/year. The European Commission has today demanded that Portugal remove the “discriminatory rules” that allow residents of the country, and not other visitors, free entry to museums, monuments, and palaces 52 days a year. Typical EU meddling in local affairs. What the mandarins in Brussels fail to comprehend is that the Portuguese people have one of lowest salaries in the EU. Thus, paying 10 or 15 Euros a visit is a lot for a local while for a relatively highly paid German it is not. And free for all would not support the costs of the cultural heritage. Another, yet small example of an aggressive EU gone overboard. #EU #Portugal

EVERYONE deserves access to arts and culture! Therefore, it fills me with joy to see the Bidi Bidi Performing Arts Centre used as a creative outlet for the community, home to 250,000+ displaced people. The hope is that they unite through music and dance to heal from trauma. The building is positioned on the border between the two communities while aligning itself on existing pathways to promote ideas of placekeeping, movement, and connection—a shared space. Inside, it houses a stage for performances and events and a recording studio for large groups. "Our research and work around the world has shown that culture is deeply correlated to community identity, which in turn is a vital ingredient of community resilience. To that end, it feels fitting that the Bidi Bidi Performing Arts Centre is formed around an environment that gathers people as in an amphitheatre, which creates a natural spotlight for activity." In efforts of environmentalism and sustainability, the roof doubles as a funnel for rainwater. It is estimated that the water tank will provide 1.2 million liters of water every year. Approximately 70% of this will be used directly by the community, while 30% will be used to irrigate the landscape. All while materials were developed from what could be found in the area, constructed by the local community, and surrounded by greenery to avoid droughts and famine. #Arts #Culture #Architecture #HumanCenteredDesign #Connection #Africa #PublicSpace #Uganda #Refugee #Local #Environment #Sustainability #Resilience
