I had the pleasure of attending Abu Dhabi Finance Week (ADFW) this week, where industry leaders, venture capitalists, and finance professionals convened to exchange insights and discuss the latest trends shaping the future of capital markets. Abu Dhabi’s financial landscape is notably influenced by family-owned businesses, which constitute approximately 90% of private companies in the emirate. These enterprises play a pivotal role in the economy, contributing about 60% to the GDP and employing 80% of the private sector workforce. The emirate’s appeal as a global financial hub is further underscored by its growing number of high-net-worth individuals. Recent reports indicate that the UAE is home to 18 billionaires with a combined wealth of $138.7 billion, reflecting a significant increase from previous years. Abu Dhabi’s strategic initiatives and robust economic policies have solidified its status as the “Capital of Capital,” attracting global investors and fostering a dynamic environment for financial growth. Additionally, a new industrial zone focusing on technological solutions and localized production was introduced. The initiatives, unveiled on the opening day of Abu Dhabi Business Week (ADBW), include: 1. The launch of the Abu Dhabi Registration Authority (ADRA), 2. The Abu Dhabi Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s (ADCCI) new strategic roadmap, 3. A new strategy for the Khalifa Fund for Enterprise Development (KFED) in collaboration with MEZN Venture Studios, 4. The launch of the Family Business Council.
