To counter the worst effects of climate change, many individual citizens are taking proactive actions that have a positive impact on the environment, but for our societies to become more sustainable, there needs to be a paradigm shift in mindset - we must develop a culture of care for our climate. I didn't only enjoy working on testing of Sentinel-2 but also making use of it's beautiful data to generate beautiful insights in several usecases. This launch marks a major leap for the global Earth observation community, providing unprecedented data to monitor our planet's health and well-being. Sentinel-2C will enhance our ability to monitor forests, agriculture, and water bodies, track urban growth, and support disaster relief efforts. Its multispectral imaging capabilities empower researchers, policymakers, and industries with the insights needed to address climate change, environmental degradation, and sustainable resource management. This mission reinforces Europe's leadership in space-based observation. With each Sentinel launch, Europe is setting the standard for global contributions to climate monitoring and environmental sustainability. This year’s #worldspaceweek is on the topic of Space & Climate Change 🚀🍀 Celebrating the transformative impact of space technology in our ongoing battle against climate change, emphasizing the proactive role #spaceexploration plays. Although this year’s World Space Week draws special attention to this important topic, it has nevertheless always been a crucial topic for life on earth. Thus, the European Space Agency - ESA started their own #CCI (Climate Change Initiative). 👉 What is ESA’s Climate Change Initiative about? #ESA develops a suite of satellite data records of key components of the climate system, known as Essential Climate Variables (ECVs). Scientists use these to study climate drivers, interactions and feedback, as well as reservoirs, tipping points and fluxes of energy, water and carbon. These climate-quality datasets are a major contribution to the evidence base used to understand climate change and to predict the future, which drives international action. Expert #scienceteams drawn from all ESA Member States undertake research to generate the CCI ECVs that track changes across the world’s oceans, atmosphere and land. 🙌 Thanks to the CCI, around 650 peer-reviewed research papers have been published.
