SHEERNESS TO GET NEW £30 MILLION PORT REDEVELOPMENT (BBC) Sheerness is set for £30m investment to develop a new berth to meet growing demand. Peel Ports Group is creating a berth and floating pontoon to increase the Port of Sheerness' capacity to handle cargo. On-site construction is set to start in March 2025 and the new docking site is expected to be in operation in the summer. The new facilities will cater for roll-on/roll-off boats arriving at the port carrying items including vehicles, paper reels, timber, construction machinery and building materials. About 300,000 vehicles are processed at the site each year, the group says. Peel Ports Group added: "The development will support the continued growth of its [the port's] customers such as Volkswagen and CEVA, who use Sheerness as the primary location for their southern UK operations." #kentbusiness #kentinvictachamber #ashford #medway #maidstone #fsb

Could there be an expansion of Vancouver Convention Centre? Based on the outlined framework for establishing a master plan for redeveloping downtown #Vancouver’s Waterfront Station precinct, including the Central Waterfront railyard immediately north of the public transit hub and #Gastown. This planning partnership entails the Government of British Columbia, City of Vancouver, Transport Canada - Transports Canada, Vancouver Fraser Port Authority, Canadian Pacific Kansas City CPKC, GHD Equity Holdings, and Cadillac Fairview. Although they are not a part of the MOU, TransLink, Canadian National CN, and local First Nations are also involved in the work. This would be a significant mixed-use #redevelopment over the long term that somehow achieves a balance of the range of interests and concerns of the various landowners and stakeholders. Cadillac Fairview owns not only the historic Canadian Pacific building that serves as Waterfront Station but also the adjacent Granville Square and PricewaterhouseCoopers #office towers. Construction on Downtown LA’s Oceanwide Plaza, also dubbed Graffiti Towers, has been halted for about five years now and has recently gotten a lot of attention with public safety concerns and vandalism. While the City is making efforts to remove the graffiti and secure the site, the bigger question is: what’s next for this massive property right next to L.A.
