🛰️ Promising development from KT SAT of South Korea, as the satellite operator demonstrates world's first 5G/NTN-compliant #GEO #satellite network using the Koreasat-6 satellite 📡 The tests were conducted at KT Sat's Geumsan Satellite Center in partnership with Rohde & Schwarz Korea and Viavi Solutions Korea 🇰🇷 Among other things, the development is an example of Korea's world-leading 5G technology. In a country with a lot of world-class engineers and several enormous telcos with long-term investment outlooks, technologies that seem niche today can be incubated, and maybe one day become mainstream (indeed, the article mentions that KT and LG are already collaborating on...6G) https://lnkd.in/gUGWprwN

Communications experts are already thinking about the specifications for 6G. What is clear is that satellites will play an even more prominent role in 6G, continuing the trend from 5G. In Brazil's first 6G conference, GALAMAD AEROSPACE shared about how and why we are working on mass production of satellites: in order to enable telcos to leverage satellites in providing a robust, reliable internet connection be it 6G or otherwise. GALAMAD does not want to operate as telco directly. Joined Paulo Bernardoki of Ericsson, Prof Rute C. Sofia of CONASENSE, Prof Luciano Mendes of Inatel, Takahiro Nakamura of NTT DOCOMO and moderated by 6G author and researcher Paulo Sergio Rufino Henrique.

The post is not only a great day to celebrate for both SES and Intelsat but also a great moment for Satcom transformation that would be bringing synergy to basket GEO, MEO & LEO communication satellites. Satellite based communications networks have distinct advantages over terrestrial communication networks but for data cost remunerative matching. Over a period of time we have observed advancements in Satcom technology resulting in higher volume of data at higher rate of transmission. Communication infrastructure is preparing itself to connect both people and devises with 5G wireless last miles. Here Satcom has an exclusive market share and an initiative to set up a GEO, MEO & LEO monolithic satellite communication network looks to be promising. An era where NGSO satellites with GEO participation could compete with terrestrial infrastructure for 5G wireless access could be a beginning. Would expect communication community to be optimistic for a seamless coverage of 5 G communication all across.

It has unveiled its Universal NTN Innovation Lab (NTN Lab), where it will conduct technical trials around 5G NTN technology. Great webinar on next-next, multi-orbit antennas discussing the importance of software simulation and rules for interference avoidance. I particularly liked the following key statement by Andreas Voigt of Eutelsat (minute 38): “Since the start of Starlink, OneWeb and so on neither SES, nor Intelsat nor Eutelsat have ever seen interference coming from a LEO satellite into a geosynchronous link. Given the number of Starlink and OneWeb satellites around that is already something live a marvel; and it shows that these kinds of restrictions in the software environment are well established.”
