It was an amazing experience to address the final session of the Summit of the Future on behalf of UN-Habitat (United Nations Human Settlements Programme). Speaking at the United Nations General Assembly and reinforcing the critical role of cities in a future where 70% of the population will live in urban areas by 2050 was truly an important moment. This highlights our collective responsibility to the future of our cities, people and the planet. Cities play a vital economic, social, and environmental role in shaping the future of our planet. UN-Habitat stands ready to support member states in the commitment of the Pact for the Future ensuring access to safe, affordable housing and supporting the development of just, resilient, and sustainable cities. Sustainable urban development steered by inclusive, resourced local and regional authorities and with participation of the young people in cities will also provide the foundation for long-term stability, security and peace building of societies by leaving no-one and no place behind. #leavenoonebehind UN-Habitat Iraq ONU-Habitat Brasil ONU-HABITAT América Latina y el Caribe Edlam Abera Yemeru Paula Pennanen-Rebeiro-Hargrave

It was a great pleasure to meet with the #IGADMissiontoSomalia, led by #MohamoudKaarshe, today. Our discussion was both insightful and promising, centred around joint initiatives aimed at empowering youth participation in climate action and peacebuilding efforts. It is essential that young voices are not only included but are also at the forefront of creating sustainable solutions that address the complex challenges we face today. Millions of young men and women are struggling with security concerns linked to climate change, including the impacts of food insecurity, water scarcity, and energy shortages. These challenges contribute to the loss of livelihoods and exacerbate drought and flood disasters, ultimately increasing the vulnerability of these communities to migration and forced displacement. The engagement of youth in these critical areas is particularly vital in the context of #climatesecurity, which is heavily influenced by regional dynamics, including clan-based conflicts. These conflicts often exacerbate environmental challenges and hinder collective efforts towards sustainability. By fostering collaboration among young leaders and promoting their involvement, we can drive innovative approaches that address both environmental and social issues, ultimately paving the way for a more peaceful and resilient future. As we move forward, it is imperative that we prioritize initiatives that integrate the perspectives and contributions of young people. Together, we can cultivate a generation of changemakers who are equipped and motivated to tackle the pressing issues of our time. #YCPS #YPS Lionel Laurens Mohamud Ahmed Mohamudmohamed Moallim Mohamed Abdinoor Mohamed Abdiladif Eng Hassan Mohamed Elmi Eri Yamasumi Eric Bakuli Ahmed Yussuf Mohamed Salah Mohamed

This policy brief advocates for participatory, decentralised, and democratic #earlywarningsystems (EWS) that engage diverse state and non-state actors, including community groups, NGOs, and regional bodies. By fostering co-governance, it aims to address socio-cultural dynamics and empower marginalised communities, enhancing resilience, diversity, and inclusion. Balancing ambition with caution, it emphasizes actions to ensure sustainable, context-sensitive EWS. Building EWS on existing formal and informal #linkages is critical. Forecasting impacts is only the beginning—#dissemination and motivating #action are key challenges. Effective early warnings require contextualizing hazards and impacts to align with stakeholders' needs and capacities. International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies - IFRC
