💫 What is the importance of culture in M.I.C.E events? Culture plays an important role in every aspect of the event experience. Understanding, appreciating and being sensitive to diverse cultures can significantly enhance the success of MICE events. Cultural awareness facilitates collaboration and promotes a spirit of inclusivity. Organizers must be aware of the importance of each culture's gestures, language, and communication styles. Whether it's a respectful bow in Japan or a firm handshake in the West, cultural awareness fosters connection and fosters an atmosphere of mutual respect. Cultural sensitivity involves a deeper appreciation of the values, beliefs, and traditions that shape behavior and decisions. By leveraging cultural diversity to create relevant attendee experiences and meaningful interactions. In essence, culture is the foundation of MICE, providing richness, depth and authenticity to events. By embracing diversity, raising awareness and nurturing sensitivity, organizers can create experiences that go beyond the ordinary, leaving a lasting impression on attendees from all over the world.

We got to spend our first week together as Paloceras team in Helsinki a few weeks back. Being currently split between Lisbon and Helsinki, we are trying to prioritize face-to-face time at least once a quarter. I feel it makes such a difference in building relationships when spending time in the same location. One personal highlight for me from our time together (in addition to traditional smoke sauna + cold plunges at Kuusijärvi! 💦) was Workplace Big 5 -personality assessments that we did for the whole team - first individually and then together as a team. Even though I see in our day-to-day how we are different, actually vocalising our differences helps us in building a better and stronger team for the future. It also helps us in identifying if we have specific gaps in our team that we should consider for future hires. What were the main takeways from the assessment? First of all, it was super insightful to get a more in-depth understanding of yourself and see that in many areas we are actually quite similar, such as being prone to novel ideas. In areas where we were different, it gave us a better understanding in not only seeing how we can support each other where the other person could be struggling but also understanding how the other person might behave in a certain situation. I also feel it opened the door for us to have more in-depth conversations about our roles & responsibilities. Where each of us fits the best naturally and what our underlying interests truly are. We are of course lucky to be in the position to mold our roles to best match the needs of the company and personal interests. In any case, I truly think that the best teams are built around utilising people’s strengths and interests as much as possible. What are your experiences from using personality assessments in building a team?

I gave up my usual weekend routine to hang out with an amazing group at the Asia Professional Speakers Singapore workshop. Normally, weekends are sacred, but I’m always looking to improve my corporate speaking performances and bring more energy to my talks. We packed in 20 hours of talks, workshops, networking and I learned an incredible amount. It was way more fun than I expected! Here are my top 3 takeaways: 🎭 Design your keynote around the emotional journey you want your audience to experience – something I haven't done before. 💰Instead of writing a book, apparently you can create and test a workshop in far less time. Workshops are more lucrative and impactful and I wonder if writing a book is more about the ego. Would be interested to hear your thoughts on this? ⚡Change the energy in the room every 17 minutes during a keynote. Watching the pros do this gave me some great ideas for making my nutrition, health and wellness talks more fun and interactive. How do you help people discover your unique event? For local events, the community board is one of my favorites. In many towns, your local natural grocer or independent coffee shop will have a wall like this where people post flyers about their upcoming events, classes, and workshops. I love these because they tell me so much about a community, and what they feel is worth gathering for. For all of us in the wellness and transformational travel space, helping our customers discover our unique offerings can be a challenge. For me, it always starts with the question: what do our customers feel is worth gathering for? Is it a special thought leader or is it a topic that's being addressed in a new or innovative way?
