Enhancing food security requires developing crop varieties that align with farmers' preferences, offer better nutrition, and are adapted to changing climate conditions. Plant breeders are essential for this work, but their number is limited in sub-Saharan Africa. It is crucial to strengthen plant breeding capacity in the region by increased investment from governments, development agencies, and the private sector. A coordinated capacity development strategy is invaluable in attracting and effectively directing this investment. https://lnkd.in/ghagTays

@Asmare Shetahun Alemneh's #ConflictTrends article is a study conducted on the conflicts faced by the Dassanech, Hammer and Nyangatom Woreda collective pastoralist community in South Omo, #Ethiopia. A number of these conflicts are resource related such as over access to water. In addition, poor crop yields have led people to seek food and income through other means, such as fishing, or through more nefarious means, such as cattle rustling. Asmare, suggests that the best way to mitigate conflicts in the area is through an early warning mechanism where people at the grassroots level are able to share information with relevant parties Read full article here:https://lnkd.in/dPXgjnhH

🐏 The Khust Shepherds’ Association began with the belief that a person who runs a farm and works hard should live well. It also began with a desire to preserve sheep farming as a centuries-old traditional craft of the locals. The initiators are well-known people far beyond their Nyzhnye Selyshche and Khust district, throughout Ukraine and abroad. 🤝 This local strategy of supporting sheep farmers and cheese makers paid off quickly. Small farmers have become more confident in their life outlook, while the Traditional Khust Cheese brand has become known not only in Transcarpathia but also across other regions of Ukraine.
